NVIDIA GTX 1080 Ti Owner's Club - Page 797

Ok. I posted a comment about having a system thread exception where I couldnt boot into Windows, just a few days ago. Ended up reinstalling everything, and lost quite a few savegames etc. during the process, as I thought my "user" folder would be retained in Windows.old. Could have backed it up, stupid me, although fortunately most saves are stored in the cloud these days anyhow. Also, to be honest I should really restart several games as I dont even know what the heck is going on storywise loading these old saves. In other word, not a BIG loss.

ANYHOW, to finally get to the point: I blamed the install of the newest MSI Afterburner for the loop of death, but it seems I might have been wrong. Today, not even really trying to find info about this anymore, I stumbled onto the following thread on the Oculus forums about a VERY similar problem pertaining to the Oculus and USB 3.0 ports: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-update/system-restore-failed-while-restoring-the/005bdbfa-75aa-4ad4-85d0-b427563e7928

Having had my fair share of problems with the Rift headset suddenly not being detected, and having to swap ports to get it up and running again, I have no doubt that the Oculus is to blame for this predicament. I suppose I have to buy this "recommended by Oculus" pci-e usb card to be certain everything works from now on. Stupid... The worst part of it is that there is a likely fix for the problem in this thread, using the command line, saving me all the trouble of reinstalling and losing documents. The only positive thing about this is that I now have a fresh install, after running this install and dragging along lots of bits and pieces from a long time ago, which is now simply gone. Most of the important documents is now residing in the cloud anyways. Feels somewhat... fresh.

To conclude this oversized post where I dont even mention the 1080 ti I wanted to apologize to the makers of Afterburner (and unwinder) for putting the blame where it doesnt belong. If I hadnt been so sure I "knew" what the problem was, I could even had found an actual fix. Lesson learnt I guess. Cheers!

Yeah my ambient is too warm water temps would be in the 30-35c mark most of the yeah, so with aircon 20c is good without condensation smile.gif

no it's not, that reviewer is an idiot. everybody in here on sli is getting exactly what you'd expect out of sli, beating 1080 sli by 30-40%, as expected. not sure what is up with that article. Probably a salty amDolt who just realised that Vega competes with a 1070, not a 1080Ti. dont worry about it.

Agreed. My 1080 Ti SLI scales the same as my 1080 SLI, but higher.

Since others have mentioned the EK blocks, mine are doing better the expected. I'm seeing the same or better temps then those of my 1080 SLI, which were on EK blocks as well. I did go with liquid metal this time around. I also shunt modded the Ti cards.

The temperature where I am is actually quite nice today. The high for the day was 87F while the low is expected to be 57F tonight.

There is no need for insulation as my case is the insulator.

I've built a little mini Antarctica. It's a sealed air tight, or near airtight case and the air temps inside the case are at or near the temperature of the coolant being pumped through the loop. So there is no possibility for condensation.

I simply dial up the liquid temp I desire and the temp in the case drops to match that of the liquid.

Wait, how did you do this? Is that a mini cooler???? I am so lost.

What's your max stable at 36c?. (Best temp I've seen on this thread yet).

Lol my card idles higher.

I can also attest, I'm getting wonderful temperatures with my EK FC. I've yet to break 40c in furmark, which is incredible in my considering my old 1080FTW was in the 50s. With stock BIOS, my max overclock is somewhere between 2063 and 2075, but I've only played with it for a couple of hours. Going to try and flash the Palit BIOS in the next couple of days to see if I can hit the magical 2100 mark. No shunt mod for me either, I don't have the stomach for it.
