Tempered Glass...? - Page 4

For what you do get, it's not overpriced but not everyone will need (or even want) enough of those features to justify the cost (I wouldn't be able to utilize that case—heck, it doesn't have any 5.25" bays and you know how much I like those—but I'm also weirdly particular so that doesn't count).

The shipping case for it may seem overpriced but a cardboard carton to ship it in would have to be a lot larger to protect it as well as that case, which would significantly jack up the price of shipping due to the increased size, so the added cost of the case may not be all that much. And it would be useful for transporting the case later on (if you have room to store it).

It's a nice, well designed case (it had a lot of features I liked, such as the open cable management slots instead of fixed location grommet holes, something the reviewer didn't like) but it is a highly niche product that will appeal to only a few people who can afford and justify such a monster.

I agree, what I personally don't like about this case, is that Everything is still and plastic appart from the 4mm aluminium sheet that goes around (oh and the glass).

For this price, I'd buy two cases and do like this guy is doing.

Preferring and thinking it's perfect in every aspect including value vs cost are two completely different things.

I'd prefer a custom made titanium case, the fastest Intel CPU there is, the best motherboard for it, 64GB of RAM, a VR system, an OLED 4K monitor, and 2x GTX 1080 Ti. That doesn't mean that #1 I can afford it, #2 If I could, that I would pay for it anyway

I don't see where you're going with this? It seems irrelevant since TG cases are similarly priced to regular acrylic windowed cases? there's TG cases in every segmet the acrylic windowed cases too?

You definitely do not get the same quality case with tempered glass as a similarly priced case with acrylic. I can find $40 cases made of aluminum or $500 cases made of aluminum. That doesn't mean anything really.

Wow! You must really love to compare apples and kumquats. Tempered glass panels do not add much to the price of most cases that have them but the addition of the tempered glass increases the quality of the case considerably over the added cost simply because the glass is far more scratch resistant and will not yellow or craze over time. If you read the customer reviews for all but the very cheapest of cases with tempered glass (after all, you get no more than what you pay for), you will find very few complaints—in fact, you will find quite the opposite—about the tempered glass.

I want the links to those $40 aluminium cases (entirely aluminium).

I want you to show me solid examples of the points you're trying to defend.

I'll prove you wrong, by the $25 slice.

50-75
TG - In Win 303
Acrylic - Fractal Design Define S

Different category cases, but as far as your point on quality, I'd even dare say that 303 wins this one.

75-100
TG - Phanteks P400 TG
Acrylic - Phanteks Entroo Pro

Basically the same case with a few changes in bezels.

100-125
TG - Thermaltake View 31 TG
Acrylic - NZXT Noctis 450

Basically the same quality.

125-150
TG - Anidees AI Crystal
Acrylic - Phanteks Enthoo Luxe

Based on quality, these cases are equal.

125-150
TG - In win 805 + full aluminium
Acrylic - Corsair 760T

The 805 is far superior.

I'm not sure what your definition of quality is...

edit : I can keep going if you want.

This wouldn't be as much of a topic if name-brand case manufacturers didn't start using the lowest quality acrylic they could find. The acrylic side-panel from a 15 year old Chieftec Dragon is of a considerably higher quality acrylic than my 1 year old Phanteks Enthoo Pro. You almost can't tell it's actually acrylic on the Chieftec Dragon side panel unless you feel it or look closely at the edges on the underside. The Phanteks (which is a quality case imo) acrylic side-panel is pretty bad and you can see the imperfections in it if you're not staring directly at it but rather from an angle. The rest of the Phanteks Enthoo Pro case is absolutely stunning and very well made but that window, ugh.

The acrylic on the Phanteks (14 years newer) is about 2-3mm thick.

The acrylic on the Chieftec Dragon is about 6-7mm thick and doesn't show any imperfections when looking at it on an angle.

If the acrylic on the Phanteks case is that bad I can only imagine what it's like from manufacturers that specifically produce cheap cases.

The best quality acrylic still will not be as scratch resistant as tempered glass.

Oh no definitely not. I could scratch the acrylic on both side-panels with a fingernail if I tried. For sheer quality and scratch resistance, nothing really compares to tempered glass if you want to see through the panel...

Does anyone know what the new 'snowblind' ibuypower side-panel is made out of? The one that acts as another display?

How about transparent aluminum (Aluminum Oxynitride)?
