SilverStone PM01 Primera Series in Matte Black

General Specifications

Packaging

The packaging for the PM01 features a beautiful full colored box with all specifications as well as product descriptions. The case itself is protected by two full side Styrofoam pieces and a plastic bag.

When we first remove the foam and plastic bag, we immediately see the nice shapes of this case, an aggressive but not too bold design, which I think looks awesome. We can see that the top is vented towards the back, I think this is a good idea from Silverstone, but removes the option of having the top as intake if a user would chose to because it would suck up all hot exhausted air from the back.

Firstly, we see the grill for the top air duct, again, aggressive, but not too bold, I like it even though normally we wouldn't see this too much. The back has the ability to have a 120mm or 140mm fan with the 140mm option installed. 7 expansion slots are designed into the case with low restriction expansion covers along with venting on the right side of them. The power supply is able to be mounted in either directions (fan up or down)

Top I/O

The top I/O features the normal HD audio, two USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0. Now there's also a power button and HDD/power LEDs along with a LED button by the USB and audio ports. This LED is for the cases LEDs. More on this later.

Interior

The shroud is the first thing I noticed, very simple, but adds to the look of the case. The shroud has a grommeted passthrough for PCIE cables and a door if one were to install a radiator on the front of the case. We can see that the cable passthroughs are grommeted at the right of the motherboard. Top and bottom passthroughs are not (to be expected really). We can see that there's enough room for EATX motherboards too, which is nice. There is room for three 2.5" drives in front on the fans.

Case Back

Ahh the case back. I really like it, but I had one small issue. The velcro straps are installer of the grommets, they are by far much better placed just to the right on the second set of tie points. (you can see this in my build). Features are plenty, a 10 fan 3-pin hub, two 2.5" drive caddies, three 3.5 or 2.5" drive caddies with loooooooots of room for a power supply, this is something cases with shrouds often lack. Good job Silverstone.

Front fan and filter

The front fans are red LED'd in 140mm size. Three 140mm fans as intake ensures you have a positive pressure setup. The filter is accessible by removing four small screws in the front that holds the front panel. The filter itself is medium density, which is fine (huehuehue, pun intended).

Internal connectors

EMCZeY.jpg
SL6JLV.jpg

The connectors include one USB 9-pin, one USB 29-pin, power switch, HDD and power LEDs along with two molex connectors, one for the LEDs and one for the 3-pin hub. They're all black, which is great.

Built in LEDs

MTxyeu.jpg

fY4G8T.jpg

The case features built in LEDs all controlled by the button on top near the I/O. This button actually controls the fan LEDs also. So this button has 4 modes for ALL LEDs included. Full brightness, half brightness, pulsing (or breathing, what ever you want to call it) and off. A great feature. There are built in LEDs on the top and bottom along with the top bezel.

Front panel

VWjG5m.jpg

As I've said, the front panel is held with four screws, there is actually four spots for them on each size, I choose to place them in the two middle ones instead of the top and bottom holes for easier access.

Top fan mount

ywgpsw.jpg

The top fan mounts, my biggest issue with the case (which is already revised for future RGB TG models, awesome) is that you cannot place fans on the outside of the case even though there's enough room for this. Just this would enable users to install a radiator on the top of the case. It features room for three 120mm fans or two 140mm fans.

Build

Zr2bAt.jpg
WcRFho.jpg
hClzeo.jpg
nfW6Ct.jpg

Building in this case requires ZERO tie wraps. The Define C was the only other case for me to achieve this. Making a clean build in this case is so easy, you don't even have to try. Good job on this case Silverstone. The LEDs are great and overall everything is, just note where my velcro straps are in contrasts to where they are from factory. They don't interfere with the 3.5" caddies here also

Conclusion

I give this case the following score

Aesthetics - 9/10
Features - 9/10
Costs - 9/10
Quality - 9/10

Total of 90%!!! At $109.99 for this case it's a great deal. Four included high quality 140mm fans, built in LEDs, high quality feel everywhere, I have absolutely no complaints about this case.

Thank you so much to SilverStone for this case for review smile.gif

How does this compare with the Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ATX?

Couldn't really tell you, I haven't reviewed it or even seen one in person tongue.gif

At first glance, it would seem that the Evolv is of higher quality exterior materials. The PM01 top and front are plastic.
