Ryzen 7 vs Intel - Temperature analysis

Thread Starter
Hi guys

I would be interested purely thermal aspect of the new AMD Ryzen, specially compared to Intel i5 and i7 ( LGA 115x ) as far as I know from Haswell onwards ( since it have HSI unsoldered ) show both high temperatures usually.

So I would like to have some information about from someone who already own a Ryzen and can do a direct comparisons.

I plan to switch from my current case Corsair 650D to Lian Li O10, then i must switch also my heatsink from Noctua U14S to the little Noctua U9S, so it's very important for me to have data about these aspect to have no surprises after.

This is just my opinion after watching and reading multiple reviews for the Ryzen 7 chips, but I don't think we can safely make a conclusion about the temps of Ryzen yet. There doesn't seem to be any software that can accurately monitor the temps since they're monitored differently than the way Intel monitors their temps.

That being said, from the review, Ryzen seems to run hot, particularly when overclocked, but those reviews showing the 1800x running hot are getting results from the 1700 while overclocked to the same frequency running at a much lower temperature. Considering AMD sent out Noctua 120mm coolers (can't remember the part number) with the 1800x review samples, I'd say that's enough to properly cool them.

Generally speaking I think AMD's TDP is lower this time around, which should in theory create lower temps.

Ok but theres not any direct comparison with same heatsink against i5 7600k and i7 7700k ?
I have now an i5 4670K haswell and its very hot, a Ryzen 1700x is hottest or not ?

Intel wins
all depends on the thermal paste though.
Bad paste is just bad

That's WEIRD that the OP posted a 'question' that I was wondering about for a while and mentioned in my previous post in another thread!

Are you talking about the 'software' (even AMD's own) that speaks about an 'offset' of the temperatures? I think the offset is something like 20 degrees? You probably know what I'm talking about but I read the same thing as you, I think, about there being no accurate monitoring software. But, isn't that a negative on AMD's part? That you can't even get accurate temps yet? Did Intel have this problem with their 'first generation' chips came out? Maybe AMD rushed their release or something? Lack of motherboards and uncertainty regarding temps.... I think knowing what temperature your processor is at, especially when you stress it with games or other software might be useful! smile.gif

I haven't read very many reviews either where they mention temps but I do recall one in which a Ryzen chip was OC'd (R5 or R7, I forget), but they claimed even after the overclock, it never went past a 'chilly 23 degrees.' That's pretty good. But, many of the benchmark tests is with Cinebench and that seems to be a particular one in which Ryzen excels at so maybe it's difficult to get an accurate overall picture of the efficiency of the processors so far?

1700x and 1800x have 20 degrees offset. The non-x 1700 should display the temperatures correctly.
