lowest latency ram you can find.

Bios updates have made sandy perfectly fine with 2133 memory. If it was ever even a problem on any decent board.

The difference is big. Never use slow ram, 1600mhz ram was around in the i7 920 days,

I see, 2133 it is then. Yeah im on 1600 for many years now, but if theres any gains from ram speed I hope to max out this system before I can justify any full system upgrade. Still does the job for me thumb.gif

But i had the upgrade itch tongue.gif

I would only go 2600k if you can buy it cheap. In Belgium people ask alot for a 2600k (120-200€)

Go with 2133 mhz (buy 2400 mhz it's cheaper and you can still lower the timings), i managed to get it up to 2200 mhz on my board. (corsair vengeance 2400 mhz)

I also tested it without hyper threading, wich seems to be the only difference with a 2500k, as they got the same score.

Bought an artic freezer 240 yesterday, i will instal it today and i hope to get above 5ghz with good temps smile.gif

I can get a 2600k here in UK for around £100, which is not bad or great I guess. After selling the i5 I'd only be down about £40 at most which is decent for this upgrade I think rolleyes.gif

I'll look for 2133, as they seem to be a bit more common here. Any preference over 1.50v or 1.65v? Other than allowing for more agressive timings. I've read in the past people used to say '1.65v will fry your imc on sandy' or something along those lines

I don't think thats true anyway, just want your thoughts. biggrin.gif

2133mhz cas9 ram not 11.

This is what you want. Don't get 2400 and downclock, you may still only end up with cas11.

Low latency is key here onto making this a big noticeable jump, and simply what you want regardless.

This, I would take ideally: https://www.gskill.com/en/product/f3-2133c10d-16gxm

Basically the same ram I currently have, but 8gb dimms at 2133. Perfect colour scheme and fit nicely under my cooler tongue.gif

Will using 2133 ram hinder cpu oc potential, or any proof in this?

My 2500k is a dud anyway, not great at oc'ing but just curious smile.gif

I have the red version.

Pretty much as good as it will get for Sandy Bridge. The CPU just doesn't handle faster ram than this.

Mine is rated 1.65v, it is fine wink.gif

Since you buy it new unlike the (unused) second hand bargain i got (2x4gb for 40€), you should go for cl9 like DzillaXx suggests.

The 2133mhz you posted actually has higher timings than my 2400mhz corsair vengeance pro on auto settings 2133mhz, and manually i can get it down even more.

It is at 10-10-10-25 at the moment, i haven't really tried to get the lowest timings yet, i just lowered it from xmp 11-11-11-26.

You have a good motherboard to get higher then 2133mhz, but you say your cpu isn't a good overclocker so that will probably be a limitation.

Memory won't hinder cpu oc. It will actually put the oc to use. It is possible that you will have to oc your cpu to achieve the 2133mhz speed, but this wasen't the case for me.

Absolutly go for it

With a measly GTX 1080 2083/5850mhz i never fall below 45 fps ultra settings on a stunning lg 27" 4k Monitor

i5 2500k 4.9GHZ 1.45V

In love, using a 120mm Rad 70º C Load 55º Gaming

Any drops seem to me 100% NOT the cpu
