I do agree with the driver comment. But as someone stated before that they were sandbagging.... I'd have to disagree there. They have historically put the best foot forward. The 480 demos matched their actual performance. So, if it's faster than a 1080 I'm happy. I do really hope they have a chance for better overclocking... At least comparable to 290x overclocking. 1050-->1200mhz. The fury OC aren't very strong. 1050-->1100 or 1150 if you push it.

I am not sure, but do not confuse new tech with cost. It often does not cost anymore and higher cost is implied.

AMD is accepting lower profits to get market share. So I do not see this costing $500.

$449 the most.

I was right about Ryzen. Lets see about Vega smile.gif

New tech and cost do go hand in hand. HBM is still a niche compared to GDDR5, and on top of that, is a new implementation and evolution of the original. No way it's going to cost less. I'm afraid you're going to be way off the mark with Vega. There's no way this will be priced under $500 and likely not going to match 1080 at that, given HBM poor overclocking as well.

How do you know it costs more? Cost is set by manufacturer and is not set in stone.

It is still a niche apart from the Fury, and not widely used hence manufacturers have to price higher to get back or break even. No chance AMD will sell at a loss. Most of the GFC are still using GDDR5x.

Same idea why sportscarsor or anything new still in low circulation are priced higher. Duh.

What does that have to do with anything?

You still dont get it. HBM is still a new tech and not widely used yet hence it will cost more than GDDR5x. Plus its a new revision. Common sense #101.

I'm sure a lot people bought Fury with niche hbm for under $300.

Let me enlighten you, if hbm is more cheaper than gddr5x, nvidia would have use that in their entire pascal geforce lineup all till titan x. They would have adopt the cheaper option to maximise the profit considering the geforce market is one of the largest focus. The fact that hbm was reserved only for the $5000 workstation card means the high cost and low yield is still quite bad as of now. Even the gp100 have a cut down 12gb variant where they have to remove a stack, and those card cost $5000-$10500 each

Dont forget back 2 years ago pascal was suppose to be the generation that fully adopt the hbm, (you can google to the old presentation by JHH himself). but nvidia scrap that idea off suddenly for a good reason.

Please... Using HBM would mean they have to use a new GPU. That is more a reason than what you came up with.

You are not getting the point, they originally design the pascal to be using the hbm, but scraped the idea off and redesign instead to use gddr5x
