meanwhile after smaller nodes gets mature and ready then they could simply push for it without encountering as much issues.

of course architectural designs takes much more budget than simply shrinking nodes, an architecture shift would provide a much more solid foundation that merely shrinking an existing architecture's node.

That's what Vega is supposed to bring, a brand new architecture. We all know what GCN is like and what type of limits it has. Having used GCN from a 7950, 290 and now my Fury X, I can honestly hasn't been that great since the first gen (7970/7950). I never did pay the launch amount for any of the three, so I definitely got my money's worth throughout the years.

GCN is decent by it's own right, in fact it follows in line with Nvidia's design of using RISC+SIMD as it's base.
the difference however is that AMD prioritized compute throughput where as Nvidia prioritized graphics throughput.

AMD's older architecture on the other hand, TeraScale, uses VLIW+SIMD as it's base.
which is weaker for compute workload but is highly efficient when it comes to routine-like graphics workload.

Vega(star) is 25.05 light years away from us, and I think that is not coincidence. biggrin.gif C'mon AMD, I need "Vega" for my Freesinc monitor. redface.gif

Right, but she was talking about the AIO, and said right after: It's an overclockers dream. she wasnt talking about the card IIRC.

If only. That would be awesome.

We are probably a month out and still no significant leaks which suggests to me the late May launch will be a paper launch and cards won't be in stores until end of June.

If hard launch in May, surely we would see volume shipping.

Kinda wonder what they're working on at this point. Drivers? Seemed like hardware was ready. Are there yield issues?

From the infamous Chinese forum Chiphell:

https://www.chiphell.com/thread-1729030-1-1.html

"Vega 11 will be using GDDR5
Vega 10 is likely to be delayed as test production just began, more will be revealed at Computex
Still adjusting performance, don't even think about matching 1080ti performance"

As always, take this with a bucket of salt, lol
post #549 of 566
GDDR5 is fine, its not like GDDR5 lacks the bandwidth for the GPU, in fact it just needs to use a wider bus to match HBM bandwidth.

We are already overflowing with predictions from users on this forum, we don't really need to reference forum member predictions from other forums as well.
