MSI X370 Gaming Pro Carbon experience - Page 14

I just upgraded my 1600 to a 1600x (within 1 week exchange period at memoryexpress.com). I am on BIOS version 1.3 on this X370 Carbon. The A-XMP profile 1 setting under EZ works out of the gate. I seem to be at 2933 as per GPUz and the BIOS. I can do hours of Prime95 Blend so far. 1600x default clock is 3700 Mhz and has no problem.

So far so good. Have not tried to OC this 1600x yet.

Carlito.

New bios 1.4 is up on MSI's support page. Improved memory compatibility. Just FYI.

Tried new bios. I could only post with 2400MHz 2T ram at 1,45V. Couldn't post to 2667MHz 2T even at CL20. Went back to 1.2 where I can run 2667MHz CL14 1T at 1.37V, 10 hours P95 blend stable. I like this bios (LLC is a bit better, thermals with LLC seem to be a bit improved as well, fast post) but the memory compatibility is ridiculously bad. I have 4 dimms of samsung B-die rated at 3000MHz CL14 2T.

Maybe we should all just wait for the May Agesa update.

I can do 2933Mhz @CL14 using the Try It settings and it's perfectly stable.

Ryzen 7 1700
TridentZ 3600Mhz CL17

Just to let you know guys, if you can't hit a certain mem speed, its got to do a lot with the binning of the CPU. I had a Ryzen 1700 and the bastard could not hit 3.8 Ghz without an incredible amount of voltage, got a dud from Amazon. Max speed I could get on mem was 2933 Mhz.

Welp, got tired of it, returned it and got a 1800x. What do you know, selected profile two for my 3200 mhz ram, and BAM! Booted fine (same ram I was using with the 1700), 100% stable, no memtest errors or nothing. So the binning and quality of the IMC has to do a lot guys. So not all is related to the mobo.

By the way, I'm using this kit: Corsair CMK16GX4M2B3200C16 VERSION 5.39 [16-18-18-36 @ 1.35v] recommended by the AMD community post.

Just FYI guys.

How the heck do you know which version it is? Like how can you tell?

It's on the stickers on the modules. And by the way, those are Hynix modules, not Samsung B die. One more proof that the binning of the CPU/IMC is important, as the bios updates. I could only get them to 2933 with the 1700, but the 1800x is super fine at 3200 ram speed.

I have the same rig... Can you let me know your voltage on your BIOS?!

Maybe your CPUs guys. Check my post. Changing my CPU for a higher binned one allowed me to hit 3200mhz ram just fine. Silicon lottery guys, remember the memory controller is inside the CPU...
