Roccat Kone EMP text review [ncck] - Page 4

So Ventus vs EMP? Does Ventus win because of the weight difference?
Good review ncck! Really tempted to try it but the weight is holding me a little back, that and the fact that I'm fairly happy with my VX already smile.gif

I'm guessing this will be very personal (shape vs weight vs grip vs handsize).

Two very different shapes. If you like the ec1a style but want it bigger/ with 3360 then ventus is your go to. Kone is more of a rival/g400 kind of style, like if you're into thumb grooves it's a fairly solid choice with minor drawbacks. If you're looking to be very competitive it may be a bad choice especially for low sensitivity

Yes it's shape difference, they're both pretty damn solid. EMP is built better but VX feels more nimble and does little wrong for it's weight/size/price/software

If you know weight is a big concern for you don't bother. If you fancy a try then waiting for the smaller kone pure would be a better option.. however it's a lot smaller - if anything at least we know roccat is making decent mice and can be kept in mind for the future. I'd argue both are some of the best large mice to release this/last year.

If I'd go trying out one it would be the EMP, fairly sure the Pure is way too small (I prefer larger mice as smaller ones usually give me cramps).

If you happy with VX then stick with it! 😀

But but happy doesn't mean it's perfect! Joking aside, I probably will, unless I see the EMP somewhere with some huge discount, good chance I can't control myself then wink.gif

I pulled out my G400 the other day and was really suprised how similar the shape was to the EMP. Really the main differences are the thumb groove on the EMP is a tad deeper and there is more area for your fingers on the right side of the mouse but overall shape wise they are fairly similar. Anyone who used the G400 or MX518 that is looking for a replacement should definitely look at the EMP. As far as using the mouse though they are quite different due to balance and sensor placement so it would definitely still take some getting used to coming from a G400 shape.

Ehh, the size difference is 9%?

I can use both perfectly fine, with 20x10 cm hands.

I can use both as well 18x11cm but I feel like one in the middle between the two would be perfect. I have always felt like one is a tad too big and one is a tad too small. I do use both though... I was using the EMP for the last week and felt like I needed a change so I went to the KPM for this week lol. You never know what you are going to be in the mood for using.

Just to follow up and confirm - I was able to try a second new EMP and can now verify that the scroll wheel on the other one did indeed 'decay' very fast - whether that's a rare occurrence or not is beyond me. So basically tons of scrolling and the scroll wheel became less smooth - and by tons I mean tons. My assumption is the rubber wore down making the 'notches' less tactile or something along those lines. The 2nd one I have here has a scroll like I recalled - just hoping it's not an issue with the material on the scroll wheel. Although it'd be hard to find someone who has already used the wheel as intensely as I did that past month

I'll try to abuse the new one(real usage only though) as much as I did the last one but don't have as much time to do so - and see if the same occurs
