According to the website, Blizzard secretly revealed information about the game to industry insiders at BlizzCon 2016, focusing on esports broadcasters and sponsors. T
I wonder if it's going to include UI changes such as being able to select infinite amounts of units. Because that was a major balance point in the original Starcraft/Brood War. Without that limitation a lot of the spellcasters will be disturbingly overpowered.
If it's just SC/BW on the sc2 engine without UI improvements then why even bother?
This brings up a lot of questions surrounding their approach. I just hope they choose better people to lead the project as some changes may be needed to balance the game if unlimited unit selection/spells are able to be used without tabbing to the next unit - because the people they had working on Starcraft 2 were far too indecisive and backwards to make essential changes...and that's why sc2 is basically dead on every level but co-op and pro tourneys.

Sounds like they want to re-capture the competitive scene they had in the early 2000's.
Personally I'm just going to love playing the remastered campaign.
As an RTS Noob the original Starcraft was a nightmare to play due to AI pathfinding.

That would be nice. I would enjoy it a lot if it is done right. Although the old Starcraft does have some sort of nostalgia hanging around the controls, I would prefer modern controls (the ones used in SC2)
They are not doing this for people like you and me, Starcraft BW is still pretty big in Korean Pro Gaming Scene and actually is getting more Pro Teams and Tournaments, so Bliz is going do a remake with a more presentable UI for casting/streaming to capitalize on that, there will be no stuff as none was needed to get 50K viewer for a ASL final on twitch last year for a 20+ year old game.
I don't get it, they came out only 4 months back saying the old games weren't any fun by today's standards, and shut down the prospect of a WC remake, yet then they release this?
They would have had this is the works when they made the comments in the article, and I get Korea is a market for this game, but it seems pretty frustrating.

Yeah exactly, I even remember posting about that here on OCN, I believe I used another source though. This Starcraft remaster is coming out of the blue.

People still watch Starcraft BW tournaments, last ASL title(this January) had 50K viewer on twitch at a super dead time(3AM PST) and ofc a full stadium in Korea for people watching it live, the Korean market alone would be enough to justifiy this(mostly a more presentable UI and better Observer mode so the game can be streamed/casted better). Titles you mentioned are not relevant to the eSport or specifically the Korean eSport Scene so Blizz is not spending resources on them.
Somehow I feel, they may fail to capture the competitive scene in Korea. The chance of replicating the game with a new engine with non-game influencing changes is very difficult. As soon as balance is affected - even in unintended ways, it will likely be a failed project. If it won't feel like SC:BW, it might not be seen favorably. Well, lets see how they manage.
What Blizzard did with the Diablo 1 remake event was a shame. I hope they make a much greater effort in this remake than what they released with diablo.

Outside of South Korea nobody cares about SC, not even talking about the competitive scene which is just non-existant in every other country. From a global perspective people would be much more eager to have a Warcraft or Diablo remaster, and Blizzard should aim for the masses, not niche markets like South Kore and its Brood War scene.
Give me a Warcraft II remaster over Brood War any day of the week.
I'm a bit suspicious of this. If it's coming out by May they would have probably released some official word by now to increase interest and potential early sales.
Anyway I'll be glad to see a remake but I worry they'll 'change' some things in it's look and design to better align it with StarCraft 2.
Looks more like Blizzard is finally running out of steam, and new ideas
so now they go back to their roots, to restart the fire.
I used to be a big fan of Blizzard before, but not since they have gone south with all the new cheap Developments, and bad selling tactics to chop 1 game into 3 or more pieces as expansions, when clearly it was already there to begin with, only to be removed artificially to be re-sold as expansions.
Bad bad business practice that is...
I still have the originals Collector Editions CDs / Boxes / Gifts / Tshirts for all of the above, but since the Activision Merge... they lost me as a customer.
