I assume there'll be an update to Windows 7 that does this. It'll run the hardware check and after a certain point will stop checking for updates.

In essence, yes. Since I can't pretend to feel so important that I'm going to speak for others.

Win10 is fine for me.

I guess so, but would that update be applied chronologically so toward the last updates after you already got the previous important updates and SP1 or would MS apply a CPU check right at the start when you first use Wndows Update which says "nope, your CPU is unsupported mate". That'd be particularly vicious and so very believable.

What would really stuck is if some slip streamed hardware check update stops Win7 from completing the install all together. Or if a hardware check was added to all future updates at some point essentially eliminating any updates for old hardware.

Oh wait back on topic, screw Windows.

Linux is the obvious answer indeed. Alright time to get to work on my.... oh wait the applications I use aren't on linux. Alright that's fine I need some time off I'll go play the game that just came out on my new video card... oh wait.

Just switch to Linux. LINUX can do everything. I got rid of my wife. Now I just use Linux. I no longer breath air....I breath Linux. Food? I eat BSD and poop Linux.

Also.....Linux.

For those of you needing a new key to defeat Micro$haft go to Kinguin.Com and search for Windows7 you will find OEM keys for about $30(+/-), so you can still dodge 10. There is no blasted reason to get on 10 unless you really need DX12. Nothing on Ryzen should stop you from running previous versions of Windows back to 7. Sure it'll take some work, but so will the other OS'es mentioned in this thread. Linux, Ubuntu or whatever you may be leaning towards. I'd rather stick with an OS that I know and am comfortable with that be scared off by the ridiculousness that is Micro$haft. thumb.gif

Do you ever get the "buyer protection"? Its adds about $5.00 to the price of a win7 key.

I never have, but it's always a good idea to get buyer protection if you're unsure that the install/key will work. I just live life on the ragged edge, so I haven't gotten buyer protection for anything I buy. Of course, it could come back to bite me in the button and in a year (+/-) everything goes B00M! blinksmiley.gif:

I kinda forget about system performance profiling because I rarely ever run it. But look how long Micro$haft support XP. They couldn't get people off that OS til the simply stopped supporting it a couple years back. So 13 years for their OS is pretty good. They launched Win7 back in what 2009? They were still on P!ssta back then. Win7 should theoretically be supported for another 3-5 years. thinking.gif
