No. While the CPU certainly is up to par, the platform (Dual Channel, limited PCI-e lanes, etc) and pricing put it squarely in Z-chipset territory.

That it completely ruins X99's day is Intel's problem, but this is the smallest socket they'll make outside of laptops with the least features.

They are already at the voltage wall. It's unlikely disabling some CCXes will allow you go much higher.

And disabling cores on the fly has to be done via the OS anyway. The chip itself can't just suddenly kill the cores. The OS will crash.

Higher than what? What I meant and explained in the following post is that with half the chip disabled they should be able to market it as being able to achieve the same clocks as the 1800X, so people also using it for gaming wouldn't be at a disadvantage.

Anyway, the post by KyadCK (see below) shows that their software might be able to do so in the future, probably by communicating with the OS. For now, from the description on the site, it seems like it can park the cores, which isn't exactly the same as them being disabled as the GUI suggests, but anyway, if it achieves the same headroom, all the better.

Any speculations/insight as to how they are able to improve on the CCX limitations of R7 Zen? Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
The gaming issues that were causing the Ryzen AM4 CPUs to behave erratically to say the least have been ironed out. It's akin to a newer revision on a newer platform.

More bandwidth from quad channel?

Unlink the Infinity Fabric from the IMC clock?

Better IMC in general due to a better process, so 3000MHz+ speeds supported natively?

More cores on a single CCX, so 2 CCX with 8 cores each for a total of 16 cores / 32 threads, which allows 8 cores to communicate at speeds faster than the IF? This is more likely it, due to the added Quad channel memory support and LGA shift. Of course, gaming latency would be reduced drastically then, since they use 6 or less cores and if all game threads reside on one CCX, which is then possible. However, you run into issues again for workloads that need 9+ cores. If this is it, they haven't ironed anything out (at least anything that can be back-ported to R7); they've just scaled the CCX up.
