Seems quite close, yet apart from a few listings online there hasnt really been any news from AMD. Isnt that unusual?

I think AMD started to tighten down on their leaks. I think they want to get to Nvidia's level when it comes to controlling leaks and product launches.

What people have to remember is Polaris and GCN in general has hit it's limits for clocks. The 1500mhz is almost certain a very good clocked card leaked by a partner.

The reasoning for this is Polaris under ln2 hits 1.7ghz from a very capable overclocker after going through multiple cards. And remember bench stable is not the same as game stable.

Extreme cooling is a preview of the clocks capable when the process is not a limiting factor. Maxwell was capable of hitting 2.1-2.2ghz even on 28nm with ln2, so it should not be a surprise that it clocked so well with 16nm. On the other hand, fiji was capable of going to 1.45ghz under ln2. Guess what a good overclock for Polaris is on air?

If polaris or GCN was designed to clock higher, its ln2 clocks would be higher.

Thus people should not be expecting 1.5ghz overclocks regularly and 1.6ghz golden samples when it only hits 1.7ghz(bench stable not gaming stable) with liquid nitrogen. A respin, is not going to transform Polaris that much. Vega is likely to be different because it is a different architecture but Polaris is at its limits for clocks. Hence why AMD is moving on from their old GCN designs.

Thoroughbred-A vs Thoroughbred-B

Silicon respins can do interesting things clock wise and power use wise..
