GTX 1080 Ti coil whine? - Page 5

My EVGA card is on water and has noticeable coil whine, I got a replacement via EVGA RMA and that also had whine so I returned it.

I am not holding out much luck on getting a replacement card with a reference board for my waterblock with no whine. Pretty disappointing considering how much these cards cost. Its also my first ever card with coil whine.

I've gotten used to it now. It used to annoy the crap out of my initially. Luckily mine only whines at 100+ fps

Just an update. Got my AORUS Xtreme Edition the other day and it coil whines, but much less than the FE I bought. This one is a totally acceptable level and will probably be the one that I keep and put a water block on.

I've been through 3 FE's and this is by far the most horrendous coil whine I've ever heard across probably 50 GPU's.

It's not only insane musical whine at high FPS, but under high load at low FPS it's chatter and rattling.

When the card isn't being pushed (1080P, 1440P) it's quiet but as soon as you cross a FPS threshold or play anything @ 4K the noise is over powering.

I'm not sure if I want to keep mine at this point especially since putting a AIO will only make it more apparent since the blower fan masks the noise a little as it heats up.

I noticed coil whine happening at around 80fps and up which is very low.

FWIW the coil whine on mine seems to have died down a bit now I've had the card for a week or so. At first it was so loud I was pretty sure I was going to return the card and have to bite the restocking fee but now it's at a level where I can mostly ignore it. If I played with headphones (which I don't) I'd never notice it. I'd prefer it had none like my 980 Ti and I'm super disappointed that a card this pricey has such a flaw but from what I'm reading it's pretty common.

Wow. They still havent switched to better components after the widespread reports of the 1080 having coil whine. Would have assumed that they got their act together since they've had 9 months to fix the issue.
Welp. Got the replacement card from Amazon. Same ****. At this point I don't want to return this one because I feel it's all just luck. Can a power supply somehow cause a card to whine? My previous two cards never whined with this PSU so I'm not sure.
I bought a new PSU to try and resolve mine and it made zero difference. I think a EVGA T2 is good enough.

At this point it's safe to assume most have this problem. At 140+ FPS the FE fan can't even drown out the screeching. Below 100FPS the fan masks it a bit but still, $700 GPU.

Here Asus 1080 Ti Srix also whines:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6HTBXARUF4

I have 2, tested on 2 machines.

I tried to return it in store, they accepted it to verify, but most likely either I will have to RMA or return with restocking fee which sucks.
The guy in store said all 1080 Tis pretty much have coil whine, especially Strix. I guess becaue its OC out of the box
