I put one of these on hold at microcenter for pick up friday, It looks really cool, and I think would be a good first step in moving into custom loops. However, I have been reading reviews on amazon/newegg and am noticing a trend.... about half the people buying them are either experiencing pump failures, or leaks. Does anyone here have one? Can possibly give me a little hope that I wont recieve a unit that will die or damage my rig?

Also, I got the regular model and not the "prestiege" the only difference being the regular model has some sort of clamp fittings on the tubes over the barbs and the high dollar one has compression fittings, would it be worthwhile to change these out? swap the clamps for compression? is that possible?

Thanks in advance

I've had one for a few months. Open box from my local Microcenter. No problems. No leaks. No cracks. I ran the pump for 20 hrs at 85%, drained it, filled it distilled water and ran it for 2 hrs at 85%, replaced fluid with Mayhems ultra pure + HydrX, ran it over night, burped it, and then installed it when I swapped cases. Runs fine and is pretty quiet. Cools better and is quieter than the Corsair 80 and 100 models I've used.

Only possible issue is with water block installation. It's a real water block, so it's a tight fit. I had to wiggle it a bit to get it seated and keep my finger on it as I screwed the nuts down on the posts. Make sure it's seated perfectly flat on the CPU as you tighten it down or run the risk of cracking the acetyl block.

I actually prefer the clamps and clamp-style connectors. I'll probably try to source more if I expand the system for my GPU. I also like the swivel 45s on the block. Simple. Effective. I'm sure you could swap out the hose ends at the block and the block connectors. Microcenter carries them. Looks like the pump side will still require the clamps, though.

There is a 2000+ page thread here with user input - http://www.overclock.net/t/1367654/swiftech-h220-h320-h220x-h240x-h140x-and-cm-glacer-240l-360l-owners-club

But to sum it up for your question....... Very few issues after the first run of X2 series, as a change was made to correct. And looking at liquid cooling reviews on NewEgg or Amazon is, well.....what liquid cooler do you know of that buys parts there? While these users get totally confused by a drip and scream "defective", someone who has actually done liquid cooling says "oh, that fitting loosened during shipping and needs an eighth of a turn". Amazon and NewEgg liquid cooling reviews are a bit like music reviews done by the deaf.

Don't expect it to be "maintenance-free" like they claim if that's part of why you bought it. Mine has turned piss yellow after a year of use. Also, the Prestige model comes with very high quality/expensive Noiseblocker eLoop fans, and that is what swayed me to purchase it over the regular X2.

Well they didn't have the prestige or I would have bought it I'm going to try it with the fans that come with it if not I would just throw a couple Corsair sp120 or noctua fans on it and no I didn't buy it thinking it would be maintenance-free I even thought I might drain the water out of it and refill it with something else and try to clean it up like you would a custom Loop before actually installing it I also kind of want to change the little connectors for the tubing over to compression fittings instead of the clamp Style but when I asked these questions on Reddit I got slimed for buying something and wanting to do custom Loop things to it even though this is supposed to be expandable

The Helix fans are better than the SP120, and as good as any Noctuas in this application. If you want to upgrade, you are going to have to pony up for a top notch rad fan to make a difference - GTs, Vardars, eLoops. I probably ran through about a dozen different fans on the Swiftechs in various tests for reviews.

If the tubes were black and it had no visible res, would it then be "maintenance free"?

I thought about putting green tubing on it, I may still once the tubes discolor. Should I run for a bit and maybe empty the water and put fresh in? I also got this green uv stuff called hydrx extreme duty coolant, which I'll use if i change the water... but SHOULD I change the water BEFORE installing?

Nitemare didn't rinse his out and we've all seen what it's done to him...

I ran, rinsed and filled mine. It's up to you. Just be sure to use distilled water. You've seen aquarium tubing before, right? Some sort of biocide is a good idea. You don't need to use the whole bottle of HydrX to protect your system components. You'll see a bubble form over the next week, so you'll probably be opening it again to top it up.

How long should I run it before I empty and refill it? And how do I rinse? Just run water through one end and let it pour out of another?

according to reviews that I have seen and read yes you can add a GPU block and another radiator and the pump will be sufficient Linus Tech tips actually did a review on this line of coolers and said that the pump would be more than enough to operate two radiators and a second block.

No need to apologize I started this thread in the hopes that other people who were thinking of buying Woodway in and also people who have owned one to weigh in

That's all up to you. I detailed what I did in the second post of this thread. I basically did a run with the original solution to clean out the flux, a second short run to rinse it, and then filled it with the good stuff. A few days later, all the trapped air had made a bubble in the res. I just topped off the tank and that was that.

So I should run it for a while with the original fluid and then empty it and fill it with what distilled water? In order to rinse it and then empty it and fill it again with whatever I'm going to be using normally?

Pulled the trigger and it will be here on Sunday . Got the prestige 220 a butt ton of fittings . More hose, and going to use the 360 rad off of my Eisbaer kit. And ordered a GPU block for one of my furys to keep me occupied until Vega LoL woot woot

Lol if you're gonna change all that, you might as well have just bought all custom parts,

Edit: oh wait you're expanding to a gpu as well, my bad I had forgotten

Yea, given how work is right now. Sitting down and planning a full custom loop doesn't look like it's going to happen . Hell it's going to take me 2-3 days to get this one ready.
I still have some fittings and other stuff from my other loops I had . And the rad from the Eisbaer so I really just added a GPU block and some hose to the purchase with the h220

Yeah I'm going to spend probably most of the night tonight and maybe some of tomorrow flushing out and getting this thing ready to go into my case it was literally the only one Microcenter had so hopefully it doesn't have any issues

Yep. Run stock stuff. Drain. Run distilled water. Drain. Fill with the good stuff. Install.

Well... that's what I did, anyway.

For the "good stuff" can I just use more distilled water with that Hydrx stuff? or should I go spend more $ on brand named coolant?

#24 ·
Distilled H2O and HydrX should be fine. Some folks use only the H2O, but you'd need to add a bit of iodine as a biocide. You won't need the whole HydrX bottle. I used less than 1/3 bottle. Label says something like 1 bottle per liter? Less is probably better as coolant is not as efficient as water.
