Essentially forever doomed to promote the same arcadey playstyle that caters to kids who whine if the game is too hard when they don't understand basic maneuvers or tactics... or think its unfair to have an A.I. that shoots first before letting you see them. tongue.gif

It's why the original DOOM has remained so popular. Ever notice the one key thing in those games? The enemies don't care to let you take your time, they shoot when they see you and don't stop to give you a break, ever. Just seems silly to me really that more games don't employ that logic into badguys more often. I want an enemy that plays like another player might, depending on the situation. Hell, they coded it in Brutal Doom and Project Brutality. They sure as hell can do it in modern day shooters... tongue.gif

It sounds like they gambled on a 'sure thing' here. I'm trying to figure out what big aaa game bombed. If I had to guess, COD, WD2, and TLG. The big box stores also had better console deals during the holidays, which they admitted. I think as long as there are consoles and pokemon type toys, gamestop will remain in existence. Even with the horrendous customer service and low pay, it seems upper management doesnt care because it doesnt effect the bottom-line. Has anyone gone into a store recently? Do they still sell pc games? I went in there to sell my og ps4, but never looked around.

Using a standard CD or DVD drive in a PC from 2017 is about as goofy as using 5.25" floppy disks for your nuclear computer systems! tongue.gif

Yeah Steam and GoG are just too convenient and cheap. I have not bought a game on DVD in years.

They have PC section with like 5 games and Steam gift cards. Most the games are just digital activation key codes too.

I see them disappearing completely over the next 5 years.

Seems like they're switching to selling memorabilia to make up for it. I hadn't been in the Gamestop here for a couple years until last weekend. When I went there it looked like over half the store was tshirts, mugs, figurines, etc.

So the #1 reason for their existence was taken away by themselves, and with big publishers penalizing players by removing multiplayer and stuff like that when people buy used it really is just twisting the knife even harder.

Funcoland really was the best. They gave far better prices than EB games did (back before Gamestop was even pushing hard into EB Games space), and yet somehow EB Games put them out of business... Never did figure that one out.

The precise reason I stopped going to Gamestop (16 years ago) was because I went in and traded in 3/4 of my Gamecube games expecting a fair amount of store credit. My friend at the time pressured me into doing it anyway, but it left a permanent, sour taste in my mouth because I couldn't even buy a single new title with what I traded in.

Only time since then that I went in there recently, I was looking for an Xbox 360 controller at a fair price. They had no 3rd party controllers, only the newest Xbone controllers at a crazy price. This was a simple reminder you won't get a fair deal if you go into a Gamestop, and I'm glad they are going away. As everyone else has said, it's ashame that EB was consumed by Gamestop way back when.

I also miss Funcoland, I remember being able to find virtually any classic Gameboy game there among so many things. It's where I bought the first console I owned, a used Super Nintendo with Donkey Kong Country. Geez, too many member berries over here.

Never liked them, since the first time they gave me an open game they called new. I still don't get how they sell open games to people as new. If i returned it in that state you wouldn't call it new.

Goodbye and good riddance, GameStop. Your stores were dirty, your employees were gross, and your business practices garbage.

And some of their board members wonder why they're losing profits and stock value......

A store here called Play N Trade did the same thing to me. I asked for a new copy of Left 4 Dead for Xbox 360. They handed me an obviously used copy and said they used it in store as a demo game so technically it was still new. rolleyes.gif

The Gamestops here had people coming in and out quite often.

That changed when 2nd n Charles came in. That store dwarfs a Gamestop and sells used video games (even old NES and SNES), books, comics, vinyls, and collectibles. Hard to compete against that.

They were cool places to physically go and spend an afternoon just looking but i guess everybody is just so happy to see real stores go the way of the dinosaur. Look, the internet's great but it can't replace the feeling of physically walking into a store and playing around with all the cool toys. Don't even get me started on the critical state of the mall industry in America right now. Its getting to the point where there's just no where to go to enjoy my hobby anymore. When Best Buy finally goes under I'm going to have a funeral for all these wonderful places...

Darn, Circuit City. I miss that store. Was a sad day when that store closed in the city nearby.

Thankfully, Dothan (the city nearby) is growing to a crazy degree. 2nd n Charles is awesome to spend hours in.

Amazon sells New Factory Sealed games at a 20% discount. I cannot imagine how any retailer could compete without the same deal.
