Haha I think I still have this somewhere at my parents place, stored away in some box.

Good old days when I had to walk over there to see what they had in store, without feeling ripped off!

True that. CC was the only big electronic store in this area. When it closed, no place to get electronics until Best Buy came in several years later.

We still haven't gotten a BB. I have to drive to Jacksonville or Savannah for that.

Ouch. Jacksonville a bit of drive for me too. Thankfully, Dothan is closer.

If you had any idea of the level of scumbag behavior that company encourages all the way to the top you would want them gone too. The only people defending this company work for them...bottom line.

I can make an extensive list if you all want of the illegal and unethical practices they employ as well as blatant cases of false advertising.

In the median here chew on this from some other YT personas that also happened to work for them unfortunately:

Warning/Disclaimer: Videos contain adult language

The things they talk about I can trump and all of my grievances are in regard to how the customer is treated by the company and not an employee which I was...so unlike some of the things in these videos my issues are with how they treat others...

Sigh, this is sad.

I used to LOVE Electronics Boutique back in the early 1990's. That shop truly had the most professional, most computer savvy employees there. You knew those people were either hardcore gamers or just skilled computer users, and you could go in there knowing you wouldn't get the runaround. I don't know about their partnership with Gateway 2000, unless I'm thinking of another store. (I'm referring to the 486 DX days here, folks). I know some users here were not alive yet, but well...whatever.

Things all started to go south I think when Software Etc started springing out everywhere, and that other "computer superstore" (Not Comp USA...it was another one...no, NOT FRYS....but they went out of existence after not too long--NO, NOT Circuit City...).

Not surprising with digital game downloads. But as for people talking about not paying taxes online... Just because a online site doesn't charge you, doesn't mean you aren't suppose to pay it. You are suppose to file this with your taxes, where it is then taken out.....Naturally most people don't do this, as it is probably extremely unlikely the IRS will ever investigate.

On topic, sad that they aren't doing well, even though I rarely went in. My brother-in-law goes to them almost exclusively for stuff and loves the store. I'm sure many people feel the same way, but hard to compete with all the avenues you can get games now-a-days.

I remember buying a used copy of Final Fantasy VIII, and getting home to find out it was missing one of the four discs, and guess which one it was... To be fair, they fixed the issue the next day or so with minimal to no hassle, and I'm not sure if it was GameStop yet by that point. It was a FuncoLand before that, and I forgot of that name until I saw someone else mention it.

I know when it was FuncoLand, I was buying something at one point (I can't even remember what now) and noticed a book titled "The Art to Final Fantasy IX" and commented on it, not knowing it even existed. I was looking through it as the cashier did their thing, and they asked me if I wanted it, and I ended up with it for free. I still have it to this day, though it has some wear and tear (literally, one page was torn) from many moves since then.

Obviously, since the IRS has nothing to do with collection of state sales taxes.

I miss CompUSA. We had two of them down in Jacksonville and they were wildly different from each other (almost like two different companies). Used to go to each regularly just for fun but then Tiger Direct bought them and they became crappier (less PC stuff and more TV's and "As seen on TV" crap), then they just shut down altogether.

EDIT:
Just remembered.
It was Egghead Software I was thinking about. Electronics Boutique wasn't even in existence at that time.
Egghead had some partnership with Gateway 2000.
