[GAMESPOT] GameStop To Close Up To 225 Stores Worldwide - Page 9

I gotta say, I am not in the slightest bit bothered by this news. I can't forgive them for their low ball prices of used games that I took extreme caution to keep in good condition just to sell to them. I felt like dying every time I handed in a title of my collection over to them just to give me a $4 store credit. Only for them to turn around and sell that same used title for $25-30 to someone else down the line.

What complete POS that store was. Ugh. mad.gif

I used to LOVE Electronics Boutique back in the early 1990's. That shop truly had the most professional, most computer savvy employees there. You knew those people were either hardcore gamers or just skilled computer users, and you could go in there knowing you wouldn't get the runaround. I don't know about their partnership with Gateway 2000, unless I'm thinking of another store. (I'm referring to the 486 DX days here, folks). I know some users here were not alive yet, but well...whatever.

Things all started to go south I think when Software Etc started springing out everywhere, and that other "computer superstore" (Not Comp USA...it was another one...no, NOT FRYS....but they went out of existence after not too long--NO, NOT Circuit City...).

I loved working for EB as they treated the customers and us employees great....soon as GameStop bought us out everything went down hill very very fast. I can vouch for all the chicanery listed in these videos as normal par for the course operation of any GameStop location.

I worked for C City here in the NW for about a year when they switched (6 months into my time there) from commission to salary pay. A Best Buy was opening across the street in the mall complex soon after I quit there and to me the writing was on the wall when BB did open that the end was near. I would go back in every so often to visit old co-workers and would notice the place being emptier and emptier each time I visited.
I miss Future Shop, it was what I considered nerd Heaven, bought my first after market GPU there (Diamond 4 MB 3DFX card). Ton of computer/console games and many other electronics to choose from (where I ended up purchasing Myth TFL, Soulblighter and Wolf Age and still enjoy playing to this day hence my screen name), as well as what was the go to TV at the time, ProScan. When I head up north to BC for street hockey tourneys every couple of years I always visit the Future Shop there, if nothing else for nostalgia sake. Don't think I'll ever feel that way towards Gamestop but there is something to being able to walk into a store and grab a physical box of a game and check it out.

the Zagnuts simply over-expanded, i dont know about everywhere but, in the Valley where i live you have a store in the mall look, across the street there is ANOTHER Gamestop there rolleyes.gif

225 out of 7500 stores. I feel sad for the few who are losing a job but I can't help but wonder why they have so many locations. Makes zero sense that they spaced out gamestops every 3mins or so away from each other where I live.

Also to the lot of you they actually have tried. kongregate, selling digital copies of games in store, switching from physical games to collectibles and even getting into the retro gaming market.

What's else besides the slow march to Digital that's killing GameStop is also all the bad press they've been getting since the forever (shady business practice like opening up a game and selling it new, selling new copies of 2nd print Xenoblade as USED to jack up the prices, the really ****ty trade in prices) and also Circle of Life Policy.

Best Buy Gamers Club.
A much better deal most of the time if you're purchasing a 60 dollar game one a month.

I recently moved to just down the street from where there used to be a Funcoland... I miss that store.
