I'm sitting here looking at various brands on Amazon and the reviews are so mixed it's unreal. They all have a bunch of reviews saying cables disconnect randomly or otherwise don't function well. The most expensive one I saw had a review that said "Good lasso, bad USB cable." Even the Monoprice ones had negative reviews form people who claim to love Monoprice cables.
I use Amazon's 10' USB 2.0 extension from 2013, it's been perfect and I use it daily just about. Whether quality declined and affects their 3.0 extensions I'd be curious but don't think they made 15' ones.
Maybe look at this one. Reviews are decent enough and backed through Amazon so return it if it's bunk.
Supposedly, it's good up to 15 with an active extension, but that still begs a question of why 16ft extensions exist pushing toward a 20ft run. I need about 15ft total to hook up a BD drive. I was tempted to get a hub and do BD drive with space for a USB stick etc. If that goes well potentially get the same setup for the other machine when I get a DAS keyboard since those are 3.0, though I'm not sure there's any point to a 3.0 native keyboard. I doubt it would respond any faster. I don't think a 9ft cable to a hub would quite cover it, but 10 or 12 would work if for some reason a single cable is better than an extension. I'm just wondering what the most reliable route to go is. I put my towers in the basement and have cables up through the floor. Obviously, it works fine with USB 2.0 and long HDMIs for the screens. I didn't expect to run into these bull**** 3.0 limitations.
Edit: ***? They can make 13 port hubs, but they can't run 15ft reliably? Seriously?
