Thanks for the info/ links very use full ....But i am not running realtek codec as stated both systems tested with RME 9632 & Asus xonar st

Yes here you go

I have since updated the bios to 7A34v14 v1.4 for the MSI tomahawk and things have improved

i think my issue is that i am running legacy pci cards and the onboard converter chip which i think is an ITC ITE I/O Controller Chip pci > pcie is causing added latency

i can run 20-40 channels audio in windows 98 on a pentium 3 or 4, but i have a lexicon core 2 adat recording interface and digital mixer
