You could easily replace the shell, couldn't you?

Good link, the shell of the MX500's and G400's is the same so any MX5xx shell will also do.

Tempted by the replacement shell, but it'll be easier to just buy a new mouse.

And as the question seems to have been missed - do the SteelSeries or Corsair drivers require a cloud account? I'm OK with it being optional, but not if it's required (ala Razer).

Also, has anyone had any issues running either of them as a standard user (i.e. not an administrator) under Windows 10.

[edit] to answer my own question, a cloud account is optional for steelseries engine 3. It doesn't appear to need to run once the initial configuration has been completed.

I tried a few others before landing on the same answer

- Zowie EC1-A, loved the size and shape but the sides were too slippery. Not a fan of the non-dimmable mouse wheel either.
- Steel Series Rival 300, rubberized sides and soft touch buttons, but too long.
- Corsair M65, too heavy, and that sniping button wasn't quite as conveniently placed as I first thought.

I would have preferred a litle bit more support towards the back of my pinky finger, but the G403's combination of rubberized sides and plastic buttons is a winner.

keep the old mouse incase in the future you pluck up the courage to repair it when there are few to come by.

Roccat Kone EMP - definitely the closest I've found to the G400 in comfort.
