Time to rebuild my 2012 overclocked rig could use some feedback ..

Hello folks,

It's time to upgrade my rig. I have been loving my overclocked box since 2012, with some graphic and ssd drive upgrades.
I really do not want to give up windows 7, but it appears I'll need to upgrade my windows 7 before proceeding.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Consider this a gaming rig, etc.
I'll be looking at the new 7700k.
A while back I almost went with a 6600k.

My weak spot is running games at 1440 with a hd 7950 with boost. Otherwise the good old 2500k is still solid.
Please hit me with your ideas... Thanks

upgrade only the GPU ?

I'd just buy a GTX 1070 which should push 60fps+ for pretty much everything at 1440p, and see if that gets you where you want or not

I had a similar build, 2500K + gtx 570. I upgraded to a GTX 1070 and my OC is at 4.5 on the cpu. From my experience, it is fine for 1440p 60hz gaming so i agree with the post above, just upgrade the gpu then see if it's enough for you.

Hello all,

Thanks for the feedback. I checked out my system with the game requirements for the new mass effect game. Only my graphics card needed to be upgraded. The second item was to increase my memory to 16gb. I was hoping to get away with using an RS480 or 1060 but I do not think I'd be happy with it.

Thanks... I'll go price a GTX 1070.

FYI: I may have to upgrade my wife's rig as well. If she decides on that... I'll pass her my system with the new graphics card. She does not use it as often as I do... Always on her laptop.

I'm wondering .... how much more will I get with a I7-7700k compared to a I5-7600k, which is the way I usually go. I would stick with a I5-6600k, but the price is not too bad to go 7600k.
