They need to take the quake name out of the equation and just name it Champions if they intend on not tainting the brand with this game because it's nothing like the quake us older veterans are used to playing unless something drastically changes. This is just my personal experience with it so far. I guess I had higher expectations. gunner.gif

I guess I am not a veteran quake player but champions seems very much like Quake to me. I do agree though if they would have named it something like Arena Champions or similar they might have a better shot because then it seems like a fresh thing.

The fact of the matter is though that if they made it just like old Quake with only new graphics they would only have roughly the same population they do now with Quake Live.

I'm loving the beta and will be buying it, I wasn't sold on the idea at all.

Like he said, remove the Quake branding, make a new game.

I wasn't able to get past the microtransactions, chest openings and consumables.
But I understand that people who grew on Q2 and Q3 are not their target and company needs to make money. Oh well, at least there's quake live.

And go the way of all the other new Arena shooters? Yea, great marketing decision there. Without brand recognition, an arena shooter is dead in the water. Look at Toxikk, Reflex, etc etc.

Why does it matter? Do you propose a better way to unlock skins and other stuff or do you just not want them all together? There is nothing different here than leveling up in any other game and since you don't unlock better weapons in Quake games it's all about the skins and the champion unlocks. I don't think there is a better way they could have done it. Either F2P exactly how it is or charge $60 bucks for it and just have a level up/unlock skins champions mechanism. I really don't see the difference except they went F2P so you only have to pay if you want to.

Doom's multiplayer is good, but it would be amazing if it didn't have DLCs and hack modules. Quake Champions is good, but it would be amazing if it didn't have "hero abilities/stats". UT4 is looking great, and is heading in the right direction. Just my :2cents: as someone who has always enjoyed this genre.

Hah I didn't even know UT4 was happening. that's exciting! I grew up playing UT 2K4. Large map shooters have always been my favorite. Battlefield 2, and UT 2K4 were what got me into PC gaming.

I wouldn't really call this an arena shooter. The champions have different health, running speed, starting armor and capacity, and passive and active abilities. So if Bethesda couldn't find a way to market an Id developed hero shooter in 2017 that doesn't have Quake in the name, maybe they have bigger issues to think about? Of course I'm saying this just as Bethesda is releasing Prey, the ultimate example of a reboot that has absolutely nothing to do with the original. So yep, issues, they have em'.
