well i sent it back on Friday with a 15% restocking fee, it sucks but i was so not happy with that card. i will never ever buy MSI products again. it would have been so much different if they would have acted like they cared but on the forums the moderators didnt even seem to care.

Good. There are a bunch of people who will read this thread and avoid them now. Serves them right for being DB's. rolleyes.gif The EVGA FTW3 is a much better card anyway.

They eventually did open up one of the threads relating to it and said they are awaiting an MSI tech response. Too bad they've banned (in my case permanently) most of the people who actually have an issue.

I'm still holding onto mine. The cooler is the weak point, not the card, and am water cooling anyways next month or so. To that end, I did go ahead and pop the cooler off to check out the thermal paste and how things look under there and took some pictures. I didn't take the base plate off, didn't feel like messing with it today. Not a great surface finish for the GPU contact, but it's been a while since I've seen this side of a GPU cooler with direct touch heat pipes. One of the VRAM banks isn't under the base plate, for whatever that's worth. VRM have no pads and no contact with heat sink.

to me that looks like the worse cooler i have seen in a long time. that plate doesnt look smooth enough
im not an expert but still

Yup. It's definitely not a looker. I would imagine lapping something like that is harder than a traditional heatsink like we see on CPU coolers though. Either way, the cooler itself just isn't enough. Should have picked up on most of the other cards being 2.5-3 PCI-E slots.

The card itself though is just fine. It's identical to the Gaming X card minus a 4 pin header in the top left and a 2 pin in the bottom right which are used for lighting anyways. Buildzoid did an analysis of the Gaming X yesterday and I'm satisfied with the quality of the components they've used. The cooler is still cancerous lol but I'm fine with the card overall. They're all (Asus, MSI, Gigabyte, EVGA) going to top out 2100MHz or so at an absolute golden max anyways regardless of how much cooling there is available.

This will be the last MSI purchase I make though. They surely knew that this cooler was not enough for a 250W TDP card. The moderator, although not an official employee, further soured the experience. Either MSI officials never see the boards or they don't care how their customers are treated on their own forums.
