You just went on eBay and used the first price you saw. Did you scroll passed the first 3?

There are enough i5 in used market. I refuse to accept people that want to build a PC buy just adding items to shopping card in 10 mins and be done with it. Part of build PCs is also looking for used parts and finding deals.

There aren't any i5s for $70 cad though.

Now that Ryzen is out we don't compare retail price anymore?

So no cinebench
No cpu-z bench
Only GTA 5 matters
Only 720p benches matter
And now No one buys from retailers.

Ryzen is really rewriting history biggrin.gif

Sorry, but used market prices are not valid when building out new systems. The used market is volatile and not consistent, not to mention used parts do not come with any kind of return policy or warranty.

There are too many headaches and gotchas involved with used parts, which is why I don't deal with them, especially if building a PC for someone.

Maybe it depends where you live. Here in Canada people are nice and do not rip you off. I have been buying used part for as long as I can remember and never had a problem. Now that I think about it most of my PC is from used parts. Paying full price is a crime here in Canada if you are a student as prices are very high.

When I build for other people I go new because there is no reason to get a deal for someone else who does not know the value.

I just had moved my 3770K to a used Z77 ITX I bought and my current MB had no CPU so I just got a cheap i5. Yes you can never compare used vs new but if you are building for yourself and you have limited budged ~ 500 USD used part can get you a lot more performance.

How are people still arguing the value of ryzen? Used Intel ebay cpus? 7700k upgrade over 3770k? Dual core Pentiums? Really we should be wondering what's next from both companies because it seems like amd caught up over night, Intel will respond and then we will see Zen+ aka Pinnacle Ridge. Ryzen is worth every penny and AMD should get credit for it.

Nobody is arguing when you buy new. Also for most people that care about just gaming Ryzen is nothing special to warranty an upgrade even for SB users.

neither is kaby lake justifiably an upgrade over SB. The argument is shifting the goal posts a bit, ryzen rocks and Intel has competition.

Nobody has been pushing people to upgrade to Intel CPUs. It just that now that Ryzen is out all AMD fanboys seem to think we need a CPU upgrade. Nobody upgrades CPUs like they do GPUs.

To be fair, people have been asking for competition for a while now (since BD's launch, essentially). It's not 'AMD fanboys' telling everybody to upgrade so much as people wondering why we needed competition if nobody is ever going to buy new retail CPU's ever again? I get that it's nothing special to you. You have made that abundantly clear. Some of us were waiting on a clear upgrade and for some of us  Ryzen was that upgrade. It's not worth scouring ebay for cheap i5's to tell those of us who bought in how wrong we all are.

Nah, Ryzen was never pushed as an upgrade for post sandy bridge era users. This is a clear upgrade path for all people on any previous AMD chip and any Intel chip prior to sandy. It offers these people a chip with modern performance, and a modern platform, at a lower cost than it used to be with just Intel sitting in that space. By modern performance, i mean pretty much anything Sandy bridge and on. Sandy users may even see benefit from going ryzen because they gain a little performance, and they also get a modern platform with ddr4, m.2 etc.
