i5 2500k to 1700 is a huge upgrade even in gaming at 1080p.

OVerclock vs stock intel CPU ?! Does not sound like a fair comparison. Also, the AMD machine had it is DDR4 memory overclocked to 2666 while intel CPU was using stock 2133 speed

Let's see, from sb to ryzen you get:

Much powerful cpu even in gaming
Ddr4
Pcie 3
M.2
More sata 3 slots for you to store games.

So yeah if you're in SB and only care about gaming, it's not a significant upgrade.

yup, all b350 and x370 and all ryzen cpus can take ram faster than 2133, Intel reserves that for unlocked cpus and z170/z270 motherboards...amd is a better deal.

Older i5s are probably going to max out around the same point as current 2/4t processors just because they are technology slower even though they have more resources.

Older i5's are only relevant at this point if you OC them. One of the only reasons SB/IB lived so long in the minds of gamers was the fact that the K SKUs were easy to clock into the mid 4.5 range. If you just need that single core speed on the cheap, you could pick up a G3258 and clock it to the moon.
