Looking for an NVME Adapter

Thread Starter
I'm looking for an adapter or enclosure for NVME SSD drives. I could get a few of the PCIE NVME adapters, but that's way more work than I want for a 30 minute clone job.

I would prefer an NVME > SATA enclosure or adapter, but USB 3/C/Thunderbolt would be fine as well.

My boss and coworkers have been scouring the web and keep ordering U.2 or NGFF adapters, which are useless for what we need.

Any ideas?

I don't think what you want exists. NVMe is PCI Express. Hosting a PCI Express device over SATA/USB is not worth the R&D for any company since everything these days has PCI Express support anyway. It may be possible over Thunderbolt since I believe it's an extension of PCI Express but I don't know of any such devices.

A cheap PCI Express M.2 adapter is your best bet.

there's no NVMe to SATA or USB.. but it might be do-able w/ thunderbolt

Thanks for the replies. I didn't think about Thunderbolt, that could work if I can find one.
The preference for the want for SATA is more for ease of use and reusability. Hard to sell my boss on building a desktop just to clone NVME drives vs buying a few 50 dollar adapters.

This is the only option around at the moment - I'm hoping they release the case by itself at some point.

I'll have to keep an eye out for the casing. Odds are they will come down in price and have a smaller size. Thanks!

UPDATE:
There ARE Thunderbolt 3 to PCIe bus adapters and PCIe cards that can hold NVME SSDs. I just placed the order with our TigerDirect/PCM sales rep for an AKITIO Thunder3 Expansion box and a PCIe SSD adapter card.

The device link is: https://www.akitio.com/expansion/thunder3-pcie-box for anyone that desperately needs it. It's pricey, but not nearly as high as some of the other options out there.
