[WCCFTech]Intel Kaby Lake-G Processors To Pack Fast Discrete GPU and HBM2 Memory – Will Utilize Multi-Die Package Design - Page 3

I guess its take more than a generation of leap to really take on intel which has been dominating for the last 10 years.

If amd can pull this off in 2 generation and compete in ipc with intel or even supersede it, they are really doing wonder.

All i can hope is they fix their memory issue, improve ipc by another 10%, boost clock to their previous fx line standard (4.5ghz +), and bring more cores to mainstream for the same price in their next ryzen release, They will win!

unfortunately the "bonus cores" model of zen has hamstrung zen in basically every way. it's bulldozer light, of sorts

The extra cores has not hamstrung the architecture at all, what are you even talking about? The frequency limits have nothing to do with the core number and more to do with the process they're on, and the architecture itself.

That would be good. Healthy competition between AMD and Intel is the only thing that's going to keep prices in-check. thumb.gif

For me personally, buying a Ryzen 1800X was a no-brainer after hanging onto my overclocked 2500K for 6 years. I know there's lots of folks on OC.net who build a new system (or at least get a new mobo + CPU) every 1 - 2 years, and for them a 7700K undoubtedly makes more sense. However, some of us do want a system that we can keep for 4 - 5 years with only a GPU and RAM upgrade. I think that this kind of mindset is where Ryzen really shines.

If you want the best FPS today, it's got to be Intel. If you want relative future-proofedness at a low cost (e.g., not paying $1,050 for a 6900K), I think it has to be AMD right now.

Well they are competing in IPC, they're just not competing in frequency, so they're IPS is lower because of that.

If the 1700/1700x/1800x could hit 4.8-5.0ghz there would be absolutely zero reason to buy a 7700k, unless you played games that use at most 4 cores and want the ~5% IPC difference.

The problem with Zen is it's ~5% behind (can vary by application so arguably 6-7%) but then it's running at 80% (7700k is 25% higher) of the frequency of the 7700k when both are at max overclocks.

yeah sure, im not gonna be very pedantically correct about ryzens architecture, there's no point of pride in it for me to know about a worse technology
the only interest im really capable of mustering for it is looking at charts and seeing that it is never on top of them

So if you know nothing about it how do you know its a worse tech sounds like your just the typical blinded fan boi new amd chips arent bad and out perform intel in some tasks for half the price the gaming part is still improving but its made huge strides in the last month.

friends, it's worse at 4 core tasks. sorry
my judgments are based off of, uh, never having seen it do better on any 4 core task vs overclocked intel

i understand your feelings of wanting it to be better than it is. we were all let down by it, hence the bulldozer comparison. reality sucks

at the very least, you have the consolation of getting to correct people like me about why it's so bad as your bowties spin wild. that's a service im happy to provide

It never tops charts? I can open any review and find instances where it tops charts. But you knew that rolleyes.gif

nice, those are some of my favorite activities to do on the computer. when im not playing ashes of the singularity, im usually running corona simulations, agiscan, and 3D particle movement v2.1
