You do not need an 'intelligent' OS to email you when your clothing has been washed, nor do you need your coffee maker or kettle to email you when the water is ready. I just can't grasp why you need light bulbs or the toilet connected to the internet, the lie that it will save electricity is as transparent as it gets because internet connection uses electricity so what possible excuse could there be?
You don't "need" almost anything people buy. You only "need" enough food to not starve to death, what's up with all these people eating 3 meals a day?
"Smart" devices are only getting more popular, it's clear people want them. The appropriate response is to criticize the lack of security on most of them, not their existence.
Also, two devices can both use "electricity", but one can use less than the other. You can most definitely use less electricity by adding a device that needs electricity itself, but makes the original one use less.
