My take on a late 90s PC - Page 6

Thread Starter
I think now that some of us gamers from the 90s are growing up and building these old machines we are driving the prices up, I also built a dual pentium 3 build with XP on it for those 1999-2005 games and let me tell ya it was over $250 for everything including a modern Corsair 100R case and 500W PSU.

Yeah it seems that way although CPU prices are still pretty low as long as you stay away from the old FX chips. Those are ridiculous.
I looked around yesterday for an old IBM IDE drive from 2000. While I did find one for $20 they were listed as high as $80

Sadly I can't even find Pentium 3's in China, let alone Pentium 90's or 486's. I had a Pentium Overdrive 133 whose pins I accidentally broke after dropping it 15 years ago. Fortunately we have Dox Box or else I would never have been able to replay Privateer II and enjoy all the ridiculous bugs in that game.

Edit: this is embarrassing. Right after posting I can't find them I found 486's for 10 to 20 USD, depending on speed and performance. 486DX5 133Mhz are going for around 20 USD with boards for about the same but EDO RAM is ridiculously expensive.
