Floaty mouse in Windows10 (creators update) - Page 6

Only happens with rawinput 0.

What does Game Mode have to do with mouse performance (or being floaty)? Game Mode works great on my PC...

Creator's Update is THE best update ever, just make sure to install it cleanly on fre****y formatted SSD - never just update Windows 10 with big updates - always do a complete re-install from an ISO with that latest update already included.

Don't forget to disable a ton of services (basically you only need the ones that are used in Safe Mode), driver services, ALL tasks except for the text one to make sure you can type in Settings, logging and tracing (ALL), and a butt-load of other tweaks of your preference, including disabling mouse acceleration. Also, make sure to fully and cleanly get rid of Cortana using CBS Enumerator by launching it with NSudo as Trusted Installer or System - that way Metro Start UI still works. I also suggest using DB Browser for SQLite or any other SQL editor (also through NSudo's Trusted Installer + all priverlages option) and navigating to Store Apps repository, then select the 3200Kb DBR file (forgot the name), open it, find Packages, and then set all those nasty Store System Apps to Inbox = 0, then restart, then go to Windows Settings, Apps, and behold - a lot of new Apps to uninstall!

None of that is going to up your FPS though. I do it just because it reduces my LatencyMon latency from average of 50-60 to 5-20 biggrin.gif. Makes same FPS feel SMOOTHER.

Don't remove any Xbox Apps and use the Game Mode - even more SMOOTHER biggrin.gif .

P.S. I actually spent a week testing all these tweaks and even though now my OS is freaking bare-bones - everything works, including all Store Apps, menu's etc., but about 80% of worthless Windows features are disabled thumb.gif .

EDIT: I lied - the one thing that does not work is shutting down my PC. I can restart it with Windows controls or Restart button on my case, but Power Off Windows controls just re-start explorer and the Power Button single press does the same, so I have to hold it to shut down PC completely, but HEY - I always have a backed up Acronis True Image 2017 copy of Windows with everything installed and all settings adjusted BEFORE any tweaking took place!

Why complain? Borderless mode is superior in every way - no need for V-Sync framerate cuts, reduces input lag, ICC profiles always apply, etc. It USED to cause stutters in some games, but not ever since Windows 10 Anniversary Update and latest NVidia drivers and of course latest game patches. With Game Mode ENABLED, it further makes Borderless mode super stutter-free! You just have to learn how to properly tweak the living hell out of Windows with each new update, while leaving basic functions working.

Borderless windowed mode still causes a lot more input lag than normal exclusive full screen with tearing. The only way you can remove tearing without increasing input lag is with variable refresh rate monitors.

Yeah but your frame rate has to be below your refresh rate for those to work. It's best to be double your refresh rate or higher so you don't notice tearing

The only way in the past to get less input lag when being full screen windowed was to disable desktop composition and use Windows 7 classic theme to ensure aero was off. True full screen is best for performance and input

I do notice on the desktop the cursor feels a bit different compared to my 7 rig I have next to it but I'm games haven't really noticed.. though every game I play is raw input enabled. It doesn't feel floaty on desktop just not as connected.. aka more jumpy from stop to start motions

Can those of you reporting cursor lag try this?

I wish they would give us a barebones version of windows 10 without all the tablet junk added to it.

All the windows praising is making me think you work for Microsoft(jk), but no, i don't agree with you at all about the input lag. Borderless fullscreen does NOT reduce input lag, exclusive fullscreen does.

Test it by yourself, buddy, lets say in CSGO. Knowing that your windows services are tweaked, change the timer resolution to 0.5ms, set the scaling mode to display and no scaling, set your gpu to work in msi mode, set CSGO's pre-rendered frames to 1, and finally disable game mode, dvr , game bar and enable the option on CSGO's exe. I could name alot more tweaks but these should do.

...other than that, I dont see any way you can't feel it unless you are using an sponge as a mouse.

I just don't see why anyone should have to go through all that, or why they would want to, when they could just play on fullscreen. But if Microsoft is forcing it on users...

Like, what is with them lately?
