never liked bots, never will use them. people that use them ruin the quality of the game in an overall perspective. Blizzard should be able to enforce the judgement and I hope they get every penny.
Only problem is the bot makers just go to Russia and China where they have no concept of of intellectual property

your lost my friend, there is illegal distribution and profiteering off of Bots or Blizzard ( and others ) would not have won their court case( they would have won regardless because the cheats are obvious and designed specifically for blizzard games and in fact can be traced back to source )
when you went to school what grades did you get for the assignments that you paid people for and were caught by your teacher submitting as your own? It's called fraud.

Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should do something. Morals and integrity be damned, This is the biggest problem with the net, the anonimity creates the thought that well I am not cheating or being dishonest. I don't know what the fix is but awards like this one are good to see, in the end it will make all of our gaming experiences better

The fraud in your example is in the illegitimate claim of authorship. It has nothing to do with the simple act of paying (or asking) someone to do tasks like those I mentioned.

Blizzard might as well have won the case for a billion dollars, it makes no difference. This is a German company. About Russia and China, it's not that they don't have a concept of IP (even if IP abuse is more prevalent there), they just recognize a lower extent to the protection proprietors are entitled.

As long as it effect other people in any way it is. Getting someone to write you a paper is ilegal.

Seems to me you've been CHEATING the whole time.

Cheating to me is when you're negatively impacting the experience of other players. Using a bot to half play the game for me in PVE content isn't ruining anyone else's experience but my own, and i don't fall into the category of "other players" so i don't care. If i was using bots to climb pvp ladders then that's negatively impacting other players by cheating them out of a fair fight.

And if the least grindy are still too time consuming, you can always play different genres, which is what i did when i stopped having lots of free time and had to study and get a job.

You're not entitled to breaking the rules set by the developers without consequence or stigma just because you feel you're owed playing a particular genre that your lifestyle inherently places temporal restrictions on.

You must be really salty about people who bot... i mean really. WoW came out in 2004, at that time many of us where still in grade school so we had loads of time to play the game without needing the assistance of bots to feel like we were on the same page as other players who no lifed the game. Now when those same people grew up and got responsibilities and could no longer invest as much time into the game turned to botting to keep up with those who could afford to play the game more are suddenly the bad guys? Your suggestion is to go find a new game? Get real.

That's why banning the users is a better practice if the goal is to stop their use and no to preserve one's monopoly over a particular IP.

Either they stay banned and the game improves, or they buy another copy of the game and eventually get banned again.

Cheaters are a detriment to essentially any game outside of a testing phase. Botting to keep up where one should not be able to keep up is most certainly cheating.

*sigh* I don't mean to be rude, but you're overthinking for the sake of overthinking.

Eating with a spoon is [not by itself] illegal if a live person's eye is the meal. Standing on your feet is illegal if someone's neck is beneath it. Using a computer is illegal for downloading illegal content. Eating a pancake is illegal if it's stolen.

The act of having someone else write a document is not illegal and there's zero reason to deliberate on the potential crimes that can be derived from that act.

I'm never salty about anything, especially something that really doesn't relate to me or my hobbies (in this case, WoW and botting therein).

I presented my logical conclusions and ideas regarding the subject because your view and the other guy's was very biased and narrow minded. And because i felt like it.

If you can't play the game effectively within the rules set by the designer and publisher and you don't want to cheat, your choices are reduced to either quit the game or play it as well as you can. Breaking said rules is cheating, fundamentally. The very definition was in your post that i quoted.

It seems to me you're arguing impact more than the binary notion of cheating. You WERE cheating. What you did, though, according to your own assessment, was simply not AS BAD as breaking rules during pvp.

If you start to pick and choose what constitutes cheating according to your own beliefs instead of following a convention, you can make the case for almost everyone.

so your saying that the US court rulings can't reach companies in Germany ? pretty sure that Germany would have some sort of reciprocal court agreement with the US which means eventually blizzard will eventually get their day. Germany is part of interpol so we know they have some existing standards with regard to illegal acts.
as for the fraud point it wasn't meant as an example to split hairs
it is a clear example of an illegal act with the point that asking someone to create a document intended to be used knowingly for fraudulent purposes makes the requester as guilty as the creator. same kind of thought as paying someone to do an illegal act like murder, theft, assault etc, why would the court system treat fraud any different.

bottom line bots suck
