With the right price on Scorpio I'm betting MIcrosft and Sony will sell the same number of units for the next three years. Sony will maintain a lead but their lead won't grow from this point forward.
Sony has always planned on a seven year lifespan for PS4 (probably releasing PS5 in 2020) and Scorpio would have to significantly outsell the PS4 in general before Sony would rush the PS5 to market.

Personally I say that is a lot of gibberish. MS was always right is just console games are relics and still bealive in used games. Steam method is 1 million times better in the long run. The problem with Xbox was:

1) Price because of stupid Kinect 50% of reason.
2) Playstation bland is stronger everywhere but USA 25%.
3) PS4 was a faster console 15%
4) MS Marketing

Now at launch MS actually had more promising games lined up.

If I had to pinpoint the reason why PS4 won is "media" as in Youtube. Most youtubes where using PS4 for multiplats because it was the stronger console. Xbox had no place and no reason to be used over PS4. Even the big Xbox games were terrible this generation.

Maybe 10-15 years ago you could sell a slower console just purely on TV adds and fake perspective but these days more people know a thing or 2 about speks.

I've said the same thing dozens of times over the last few years, but if we're going to separate "disadvantages" from "failures" then the "failure" was in Microsoft's messaging.

Watching that DigitalFoundry exclusive tech reveal video about Scorpio makes me very optimistic about this new console's performance. It will absolutely be a very powerful console and the best of this generation easily. At the end of the day, however, I buy consoles based on the games I want to play. I bought the Xbox One S because I wanted to play Forza 6 and Horizon 3. I didn't buy a PS4 because they never got around to releasing a new Gran Turismo on it (ditto the Wii U which never got its own Zelda). That's just how it is in the current climate of exclusive titles.

I've recently spent a couple of weeks playing "Horizon: Zero Dawn" and I greatly enjoyed this very beautiful game (and especially the overall story which you mostly get through finding Datapoints/Vantages), even when playing it on my original PS4 (not even the Pro version) on a 4K TV. And I've also ordered a couple of other PS4 games to play next - NieR:Automata and Persona 5. Last game I've purchased for my XBOne was sometime last year, I think it was GoW 4 and it wasn't a very memorable experience playing that. Before and after that, I mostly used my XBOne as a media player.

So yea... Even if the next XBox would have a graphical power of fully-enabled GP102 GPU it still wouldn't matter much if it won't have any AAA-grade exclusives (instead of "yet another Halo/GoW/Forza" or re-mastered games which are better to experience on PC) to support all this hardware, and judging from last couple of years of my XBOne experience I don't feel very enthusiastic about getting the next XBox.

I'm really interested to see how Scorpio's market performance would be with how it's going to be 30-50% more powerful than the Pro thus becoming home to best 3rd party performance within the generation and with Play Anywhere titles.

I have no doubt Sony already has the crown with the PS4 this gen in terms of world wide reception but I wonder if MS can retake US back with the Scorpio.

That being said, I prefer Sony's 1st party output and Japanese titles miles ahead of MS exclusives but I really really hope MS goes strong with the Scorpio and gains at least half the marketshare. I like these two companies on edge when it comes to consoles biggrin.gif

I absolutely love my One S but that's because Forza 6 is such a fantastic console racing game (and this is coming from a die hard Gran Turismo fanboy) and I play it constantly. In this game I have very few complaints with the Xbox's visuals. The frame rate is fine at 1080p and everything looks fantastic minus some aliasing issues I've noticed from time to time. I imagine this game will look eye-wateringly stunning at 4K on the Scorpio.

I and many others werent gonna buy a console where we couldn't buy or borrow used games.

Sony even used that as marketing for the ps4. So if you think the Xbox would have survived... Thats a sad joke.

Most people here will tell you that Forza can be had in PC now.

Yea, Forza series is great, or actually more than "great" - it IS currently the best racing game series on consoles, and I've played it too on my XBOne, starting from Motorsport 5 and the rest ones which were released afterwards. Problem is, I get tired/bored playing these sim games very quickly and I mostly prefer RPG/Adventure-like games now, and for that XBOne platform (at least as an additional gaming device for a person with a pretty powerful gaming PC) is not a very good choice wink.gif

Hopefully MS will turn it around and will grab some RPG/Adventure - style exclusive (or semi-exclusive, something that also gets ported to PC afterwards but not to competitor's console models) titles, something with a similar grade to "Horizon: Zero Dawn", "The Last of Us" or "Persona 5", but so far I don't see much activity from MS regarding this. But we'll see when the next XBOne will be officially and fully revealed and ready for purchase.

Fable is dead along with Lionhead Studios so it's not going to happen unfortunately. Xbox management is becoming more and more like Disney, they only invest in games that are going to sell no matter what, like Halo, Gears, Forza and the likes.
