I kind of agree with you, but some of the exclusives have been fun for me at least. I loved Bloodborne, but other than that the only one that really comes to mind is Horizon Zero Dawn. I am probably one of the only people who who was not really in love with The Last of Us, played it once.....that was enough for me. Good story, game was meh other than that to me. I think exclusives are important to people based on their likes/dislikes, all depends how you like your tea I guess. I do not care which console does better in terms of sales, as long as we have amazing games to play for the foreseeable future. I just want good games, and I want them now. We have been getting the same crap for years and nothing has felt new, like the first time playing Bioshock.....or any other game with such great immersion. Just my opinion though, which I am sure some or most will not agree with. gunner.gif

Having a slightly better version of the rare multiplats that don't get to PC is going to sell to very few people that don't already have an Xbox One.

Revisionism at its finest. PS4 didn't really make its mark in terms of exclusives until nearly 2 years after launch. Both consoles were offering weak lineups during that timeframe, and people all over were wondering when things would pick up. Even now, the only reason the exclusive gulf is so wide is not because Sony has set themselves apart in some extraordinary manner, but because MSFT has done literally nothing on that front, aside from putting out stale sequels to tired franchises.

The reason why the XB1 was battered in terms of sales for the first couple of years was because MSFT conducted one of the worst marketing campaigns I have ever seen for a product, and basically laid out the red carpet for Sony to walk all over them. Sony execs were pretty much pinching themselves to see if they weren't dreaming during that time. Sony's marketing for the PS4 consisted of telling people, "It's about the games, dummy", and that's all they needed due to MSFT's incompetence.

Scorpio is MSFT rectifying their biggest mistake - 4 years after the fact. Give them another 4 years to output some halfway decent exclusives, and actually give their devs some resources to work with.

Every single gamer with a brain cell knew that Sony would release sequels to all of its biggest franchises and they would all be exclusive. I bought it on launch day for the next God Of War myself, and that still isn't out. My memory fails me on if Microsoft was stupid enough to announce that they wouldn't have any exclusives pre-launch or not, but it was close to there. Add the Kinect travesty to a system with nothing but inferior versions of games and even a monkey could have seen we'd end up where we're at. Unless you have some information not divulged to the public, they're going to keep putting their games on PC and will never have an exclusive worth owning. Scorpio isn't going to change that.

Yeah, and every single person knew MSFT would release sequels to all their big IPs. I don't see what that brings to the discussion. It still doesn't change the fact that neither console was offering anything substantial for the first 2 years. There were countless articles bemoaning the hot garbage launch lineup for both platforms.

How exactly were XB1 version of games inferior to PS4s? Were there some differences in gameplay? Or are we talking about the tired resolution debate?

What does the Play Anywhere aspect have to do with not having an exclusive worth owning? What? PC or Xbox, both of them are on the MSFT platform. There is nothing to substantiate the opinion that Play Anywhere hurts MSFT in any way. If nothing else, its a clever move from MSFT, as it would require people to switch to Windows 10, at a time when many people have taken issue with the OS.

If you think announcing that every game on the system would be on a more powerful system that would run it better didn't hurt Xbox One sales in any way, I'm not sure why I'm wasting my time replying to you. I know for a fact it lost at least one sale, considering that I don't own it. Nobody cares how tired of the resolution debate you are, it doesn't change the absolute fact that every single game on Xbox One has a superior version on a different system. Scorpio has a chance to change that with the very few multiplats that don't come to PC. Will it be enough to change anything? Doubt it. Time will tell.

Did you see the winter sales? No it did not hurt Xbox One sales figures at all.

Console gamers are far greater in numbers than PC gamers.

Consoles gamers are far greater in number than Enthusiast PC gamers. PC gamers include millions that play LoL and that alone > than all consoles together.

I replied to your initial comment that 'everyone knew PS4 had great exclusives coming'. This was simply not the case, like AT ALL. The gap in exclusives didn't even become an issue for MSFT until 2015. Then you retort by saying that everyone knew Sony would be putting out exclusives for existing IPs. That's not much of a leap at all, in terms of thinking. Everyone was expecting a Forza, Halo, etc re-hash from MSFT, too. What about newer IPs? Sony eventually started churning those out; MSFT still hasn't. That's where the biggest difference has been.

Why the resolution debate was such a big deal - MSFT tried to make the XB1 a multimedia console, instead of focusing on the gaming aspects. Consoles have never had identical hardware compared to each other across generations, and it usually isn't the biggest factor as to how a console performs on the market. Marketing and games decide that. The OG Xbox had superior hardware to the PS2, but that wasn't why it lost that race. The PS3 had better hardware than the 360, but the 360 more than held its own. MSFT tried to get cute with the XB1, and that opened the door for Sony to focus on the hardware purely. Which console gen ever put such a huge emphasis on hardware, as this current one has?

Scorpio's success won't hinge at all on exclusives to itself. It will hinge on meaningful and new exclusives to the Xbox platform in general, and that includes the Play Anywhere aspect. Games being solely on the PC and the Scorpio are still very much exclusives. They both further MSFT's bottom line at the end of the day. I don't get where this absurd thinking that Play Anywhere games somehow aren't exclusive comes from, considering everything is still on a MSFT platform. confused.gif

PS3 did not have better hardware than Xbox 360. Might have had a faster CPU in theory but at the same time it was hard to code for. Xbox 360 was the more powerful consoles of that generation in terms of graphics and memory. Nothing like the difference between Xbox One and PS4. PS4 got the same before the exclusives became important. Looking at those really the only new IP worth getting PS4 is Horizon. U4 was going to come either way.
