Prepare to be surprised?

Don't care about the hardware when they haven't put out a desirable exclusive in 5 years.

With their push on PC/Xbox concurrent releases, this things is really only for the anti PC crowd.

I do not see how this can be more then $500. Its still polaris part that just has better cooling. Its also 1 year latter so stuff gets cheaper.

Me too. Of course I've never been a hardcore l33t gamer in the first place but these days I'd say about 99% of my gaming is done on my Xbox One S (almost all of which is Forza 6) and the other 1% playing WW on Dolphin on my PC. The thing is that I never play Forza on the Xbox and think to myself "Gee, this gaming experience is just so unbearable I can't stand it!" Quite the opposite in fact, I think the game looks absolutely stunning on my 1080p TV. That said, Scorpio looks like it will be quite a massive upgrade over my One S, almost a generational upgrade better by the specs anyway. And it will absolutely not cost anymore than $500, you can go ahead and mark that down right now.

At a lower power draw than a 1080 ti, this machine is effectively matching the best single-GPU computers out there. It's doing this with a comparatively minuscule power draw, and in a smaller form-factor than even most mini-itx cases. And when it comes to cost... It's going to win hands down.

There hasn't been a cutting-edge console like this since the PS2. I'm thinking this having been solely a PC gamer my whole life.

If I remember correctly the ps2 was terrible hardware wise and the worst of the 3

Well, you're right about it being less powerful than the other two consoles the GameCube and the Xbox, thanks I didn't know that.

But my point wasn't that it was the best console, but that it along with the other two consoles were far ahead of PC gaming, and were on the *cutting edge* of games development.

Here's a quote from the conclusion of ars technica's article: 'a look at the PS2 is a look into the (probably near) future of the PC.'

The same could not be said for modern consoles - not the PS3/4 or Xbox 360/one, to a small extent the PS4 pro did have innovative features. Scorpio is truly a departure from the PC in comparison, and could well be a glimpse of the future (especially the work they did on the GPU).

Very true, but E3 is coming, and if they actually do what the public wants for once and "Make Rare Great Again!", Xbox could make quite the comeback.

I srsly don't know why people hype over another shtbox
it's basically a beefed up rx480 with 40CU, an old OCed CPU and 12GB of ram, and still with no desirable exclusive titles
and you'd be soooooo naive if you think it's game will be rendered at native 4k sleepsmiley02.gif
post #88 of 543
I noticed in the article that 4gb of ram is reserved for the operating system. Imo that seems high, is that much needed because you will be allowed to record 4k video, that is the only thing I can think of?

Microsoft sounds pretty set on running thigs at 4K with the emphasus they put on "1080p and 900p" Xbox One games reaching 4K.
Of course the haters are just going to look at the first game where the producers refuse to use 4K and say "see it's impossible" when the reality is games could have been running at 4K for years already if the display market had adopted 4K sooner (and UHD Bluray, and HDR, ect... The home theater industry is such a mess).

It seems to be mostly for streaming at full resolution, and apparently the dashboard itself takes a bunch of extra space when they increase resolution, which is really ridiculous that they're effectively filling up a bunch of V-RAM with pictures.
I wish I could just buy a version that keeps the old dashboard $20 cheaper, especially given that it would probably run faster.
At the very least games should have the option to disable streaming and use an extra Gig of RAM.

decent specs

but i doubt Red Dead Redemption 2 will run significantly worse on the PS4P, which is probably the only multiplat console game I'll care about for years to come

let's talk about that 1200MHz GPU, will that not melt in a confined space after 6 months to a year? RROD take 2?

I have no idea what the thermal limits of mobile chips are capable of these days...correct me if I'm wrong.
