Would you expect another TITAN? Well I didn't, but it's here. Full GP102 graphics processor with 3840 CUDA cores is now available for 1200 USD.
The new TITAN, which is now called Xp ships with 12 GB GDDR5X memory across 384-bus. What's new is memory speed which is set to 11.4 Gbps, even higher than GTX 1080 Ti. This results in 547.7 GB/s of bandwidth.
The boost clock is set to 1582 MHz, which means over 12 TFLOPs of computing power.
If you bought a Titan XP and didn't know you weren't getting the full-fat die (3584 cores of 3840 enabled due to yields), I have no sympathy. Dropping $1200 on a component with that little research is exceptionally stupid.
Anyway, it's not the first time this has happened. Remember the Titan Black?
Same price as the OG Titan, but offered a fully enabled die with 192 whole extra cores enabled.
Of course, this was the second fully-enabled GK110 part. The 780Ti offered 2880 cores a few months prior, contrasting with the 1080Ti not offering the full die.
Not really. People on OCN talked about the first XP and hypothesized what later would be the 1080ti, but i don't remember anyone going "hey, i bet they'll release a 2nd Titan XP with ALL the cores".

You're right. Why wouldn't they? I mean, every single SKU they release sells out. They can just create many different segments, each with iterated premiums, and people will make sure their production creates ROI.

Nvidia just has a bunch of full GP102 cores that they've been stockpiling since late 2016 that they need to get rid of. They've finally decided it's time so they quietly upgraded the Titan X.
But still...LOL NVIDIA. Not sure if I should buy high-end ever again (but I will). I could slap my Titan X Maxwell back in my gaming PC and call it a day. Oh wait I need to decide what to do with my Titan X Pascal.
Well, I guess with the prices as they currently are on the used market people probably don't make much of a loss. It seems the OG Titan XP still sells for $900-$1000 8mo after release
