Now let's not pull a Bikerboy like that one guy last year that started posting pictures of his bikes and houses, getting the thread locked.
Yes, this is the bargain hunting forum. hannibalsmiley.png

Then... he did a piss poor job of pointing that out because he wrote two dumb sentences. Three people have tried to dissect what he was trying to say with 3 different conclusions. Since he's too lazy to even bother going beyond two sentences now (no followup), I'll give him the least charitable interpretation.

Well, I'd argue that price for perf wise, 1080 to Titan XP was a better deal than 1080ti to Titan Xp now... Unless Xp's going to be 15-20% faster than 1080ti. Plus now with 1080ti the gain in vram going to Titan Xp is much less substantial (1GB) compared to 1080 vs Titan XP.

At this point it seems like a bad move given the PR to make Titan Xp dethroned before Volta at the end of the year.
Okay, I'll read less into it. Still not a fan of people jabbing at 'epeen buyers' though. Sometimes I want to go crazy and get the best and I become proud and happy to have such a project going (like a giant water cooling loop). I would be annoyed if I were made fun of for my choice. So, if I were a Titan XP buyer I would probably feel the same way.
I feel like Titan should best be at $1000 and stay there for the forseeable future. Not that Nvidia cares what I think.
Titan Z was just two GPUs that costed more than the sum of its parts and I believe performed worse than the sum of its parts. The Titan Xp is most definitely not that.
*shrug*

Many reviewers might feel that it's more trouble than it's worth to cover a $1200 card if they have to pay out of pocket. That's really Nvidia's loss. Based on the way you speak that should be a good thing.

Still waiting for your explanation for your reply to me.
Which is a metric that I don't think people actually care much about. Whether a product is an utter failure or not doesn't ride on that fact. You seem to be trying to conflate two things on purpose: Calling Titan Xp a ridiculous failure like Titan Z and just pointing out that the similarity is the lack of reviewer samples. Be more clear about what you mean by Titan Xp = Next Titan Z next time to prevent misunderstandings.
On some level, it is a crappy position to be in. He makes an ultimate build for Crews and now 1080ti and Titan Xp come out at the just worst moments for his project. Keep in mind this is not the same exact thing as a Titan XP gamer getting it on launch, playing with it the entire time, and only just now getting the news that their card isn't king of the hill anymore. Crews still doesn't have it yet. And when he gets it it's already 2 notches down. On top of that, it's not even for himself. It's for Crews, who's famous and he wants to do right by him. Awkward.

On the other hand you might actually have a point there. Original Titan he ranted, no card? (I think) Titan Z he ranted, but it's Titan Z so... yeah. Now Titan Xp he didn't get a card.
True... at this point I think the marketing doesn't try to obfuscate that anymore. Titan is a gaming card, Nvidia I think tacitly admits it and the press knows it.
When have they actually said that...?
As far as I can tell they are making it more and more clear it's not even a compute card, it's a really expensive gaming card.
Not that it's any of your business but I work hard for my money. I just find it funny how the big YouTubers don't get the card for free so I'm sure they're a little salty over it. Are you a YouTuber yourself? Seems like a hit a soft spot.

It was original announced to be aimed at the “prosumer” market.

Little off topic, but I never understood Western culture and how they tend to be so cagey about their financial situation. Where I come from, people openly discuss their wages and finances with each other.

I don't think it's fair to call big Youtubers spoiled. They worked hard to get to their position. Being self employed is often harder than taking a normal job and is often riskier and more stressful. I feel some Youtubers have earned their position as influencers where they get review samples on loan. It's a very human thing to expect what is has always been the norm for somebody. On some level it's possible for reviewers to take too much for granted what they have, but people who take things too much for granted don't make it. Queue a long line of actually spoiled unmotivated people who expect views to be conjured out of thin air. Just calling them spoiled I think is too overboard. As I see it you started out with an inflammatory insult and tried to respond to it with a much more benign version of it. It doesn't negate what you said before.

Your first post about 'spoiled Youtubers' is an open-ended, broad attack on what must be multiple Youtubers if not more. Your later comment about Jayz in particular may have more validity. I don't know, I'd have to check up on that.

No to both.

It was original announced to be aimed at the “prosumer” market.

I'll just link to the Anandtech article it references so it's more clear.

That NVIDIA has removed this card from the GeForce family would seem to further cement its place as a prosumer card. On the compute front the company is separately advertising the card's 44 TOPs INT8 compute performance - INT8 being frequently used for neural network inference - which is something they haven't done before for GeForce or Titan cards. Though make no mistake: the company’s GeForce division is marketing the card and it’s listed on GeForce.com, so it is still very much a gaming card as well.

Update 07/25: NVIDIA has given us a few answers to the question above. We have confirmation that the FP64 and FP16 rates are identical to GP104, which is to say very slow, and primarily there for compatibility/debug purposes. With the exception of INT8 support, this is a bigger GP104 throughout.

Meanwhile we have a die size for GP102: 471mm2, which is 139mm2 smaller than GP100. Given that both (presumably) have the same number of FP32 cores, the die space savings and implications are significant. This is as best of an example as we're ever going to get on the die space cost of the HPC features limited to GP100: NVLInk, fast FP64/FP16 support, larger register files, etc. By splitting HPC and graphics/inference into two GPUs, NVIDIA can produce GP102 at what should be a significantly lower price (and higher yield), something they couldn't do until the market for compute products based on GP100 was self-sustaining.

Finally, NVIDIA has clarified the branding a bit. Despite GeForce.com labeling it "the world’s ultimate graphics card," NVIDIA this morning has stated that the primary market is FP32 and INT8 compute, not gaming. Though gaming is certainly possible - and I fully expect they'll be happy to sell you $1200 gaming cards - the tables have essentially been flipped from the past Titan cards, where they were treated as gaming first and compute second. This of course opens the door to a proper GeForce branded GP102 card later on, possibly with neutered INT8 support to enforce the market segmentation.

It's enough to make me take a step back from my position earlier then. I still wouldn't say Nvidia would respond to a person complaining about price with 'It's not a gaming card so your bad!'. Actually I don't think Nvidia is obligated to even reply to such complaints... well. You know what I think already about that.

I'm not going to continue to harass you about replying to your original reply to me (about the bad buy thing and why that comment even needed to exist). If you're not going to respond to it now then whatever.

If I knew you in person I wouldn't mind talking about personal stuff. I just don't know who you are and this is all online for anyone to read so I'd like to keep my personal life as private as possible.

I honestly wasn't trying to call every big YouTuber/reviewer spoiled but a lot of them are. They expect free hardware and they can get a little salty if they don't. I've even seen vids of some of them flaunting all their free hardware. I know they work hard but I also work hard and I don't get anything for free.

The final response I would give to that point would be that it's not free. It's a loan given out with the expectation that their product gets covered and a decent review is done. It's also an offer that comes only to people who have already put in the work. If things were so great and the spoiled Youtubers just don't get it, then everyone should maybe be a Youtuber. What probably would happen is people won't make it and the ones who do realize that a review sample is but a small convenience in a field with pros and cons just like very other field. And with most fields there are pros we might take for granted. I didn't say you meant all big Youtubers, I did say multiple though. A lot fits with what I said.

As for your first sentence, I can still see your POV.

Some hardware are loaners but not all. Have you seen Jayz collection of cards? He even has a shrine in his new office! Also, most of the stuff in his office was purchased using donations from viewers. I'm not hating. All the power to him. Just stating facts.

Ahh yes, I was half considering to address that. To clarify: I don't believe Jayz would be salty if he merely got a loaner instead of the card. If he expected the card for free otherwise his salt will triple that's where I draw the line. But I don't think we can prove to each other what Jay would have felt.

Why do you assume malice in my posts? The post I was responding to originally gave the context. Seriously, please stop reading too much into my posts, especially ones that I literally spend less than 30 seconds typing out.

Define use? I mean, buying something for epeen has a use, the use being epeen. Buying something due to excitement, impulse buy, or self-gratification... those are all possibilities. I haven't even bothered to update my sig in my rig even though the rig is sort of ridiculous. Not everything crazy is epeen and epeen isn't always bad.

That is why I brought up my custom loop. It's excessive, but I don't dream about what my next build would involve at work because I want the largest raging epeen boner on the internet.

And if I share something it's insulting to just say it's e-peen... Sometimes I am genuinely excited about whatever project I'm working on, and most of the time other people don't care. But I care. I build roadmaps and I name my computers and I have a description for why I picked each name and the background. It's exciting and honestly it gives me a reason to live and get up in the morning.

Not everything is just epeen.

:2cents:

I don't think I can explain any more completely than I have.

I mean, okay. You're the guy who wrote the post, so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. I was and am not very inclined to give you a charitable intepretation due to your OCN title 'AMD Fanboy', talk about epeen, and overall distaste for Titan Xp.
