[Microsoft] Windows 10 Build 1703 available for update now (I've also added info on the new nVidia driver + full 1703 changelog + remove onedrive)

Just letting you guys know even though it is officially rolling out on April 11th you can get the update now instead of having it install at some inopportune time.

My recommendation for upgrading versus fresh install:
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
With the way that Windows 10 works you really have little reason to do a fresh install so I would greatly recommend just updating rather than doing a fresh install which would only serve to generally waste your time. I know people would argue with me but I have read up on it and done all the upgrades for many PCs including two of my own and quite a few friend's/family's on Windows 10 without ever having to do a fresh install and they all run flawlessly. Remember people, this is a suggestion not a prescription so do what you want as I don't want to get into any arguments over it. Just letting you know my experience across a number of different desktop and laptop configurations.

This is the creators update with Game Mode (generally helps with minimum fps on mid to high end machines and max fps on low end machine), support for spatial sound through built in Dolby features like Atmos, and WDDM 2.2 which reportedly has older games running much better - someone on Guru3D commented that Monkey Island 1 and 2 used to crash and now they don't. Just click here, download the updater and run it.

Here is the full 1703 change log for anyone interested:

Also, there are new nVidia drivers (381.65 WHQL) that take advantage of the new WDDM 2.2 ready for the update and can be downloaded here (Windows 10 x64). I am not too sure but I used the latest DDU in safe mode and installed them before the update to make sure everything goes smooth.

Change log for nVidia 381.65 WHQL
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Changes and Fixed Issues in Version 381.65

The following sections list the important changes and the most common issues resolved in this version. This list is only a subset of the total number of changes made in this driver version. The NVIDIA bug number is provided for reference.

[XSplit][DirectX 12 games such as Rise of the Tomb Raider]: Games experience poor performance.[1882697]

[GeForce GTX TITAN X][SLI][Battlefield 1- XP1 Update]: Shimmering occurs on grass and trees with SLI and in-game TAA enabled. [200289721]

[GeForce GTX 1070][Serious Sam HD]: Heavy flickering occurs in the game with V-sync enabled. [1881405]

[GeForce GTX 980 Ti]: The GPU occasionally gets stuck in a low power state after pressing Alt-Tab while playing a game.[1832415]

HD Audio Driver 1.3.34.26

New version of Physx System Software 9.17.0329

Branch R381.65 (r381_64-2) / 22.21.13.8165 (3-31-2017)

New Features

Added support for Windows 10 Creators Update.

Added DTS X and Dolby Atmos support for 5.1.2 speaker configuration.

Added Dolby Vision support for games.

Added NVIDIA Ansel TM support for Snake Pass and Kona.

Manage 3D Settings page:

Added option to disable self-refresh power-saving feature for G-Sync.
Applies to self-refresh capable notebooks using Pascal-based GPUs with G-Sync enabled.

NVIDIA Control Panel:

Display page: Added the option to override the Windows 10 control of desktop
color settings. This is a new setting and might cause problems for some users. IF you are experiencing problems reference this thread.

Credit goes to to JAMVA @ Guru3D Forums for compiling this list while I made a few tweaks to it.

Hope everything works out for everyone and I'll report back in a bit once it is all finished and tested a bit. Good luck! thumb.gif

UPDATE1: The update process reset all my nVidia control panel settings so make sure to go back in there and make sure your settings are all customized the way you like it. I had to redo my colour profile settings and turn on adaptive sync and MFAA.

Installation went well - no problems so far.

Looks like there is a new uninstall interface

UPDATE2: Added full change log in spoiler format to not clutter post

UPDATE3: I noticed it re-installs onedrive. If you don't want it on your system you can download this text file, rename it .bat and run it - no more onedrive on your system! I can guarantee its safety as I have looked through the code and have been using it since Win 10 released on all my PCs and and all my friend's/family's PCs with no issues.

UPDATE4: Added important change log notes to 381.65 WHQL as they are pertinent to the 1703 update. Also, there is a new new colour setting which reportedly can cause a possible colour issue which I provided a link that contains a solution in the the notes.

UPDATE5: Decided to run three benches with Game Mode off and on with these drivers to see what the results would be and here they are if you're interested.

UPDATE6: Something with the 1703 update and nVidia drivers are causing the ICC profile and custom nvidia colours to revert back to default when I restart. Also, any application with an nvidia profile which is detected through the manage 3d settings tab will revert the icc profile and/or custom nvidia colour settings while the ones without a profile retain ICC/nvidia custom settings. This happens on both 378.92 and 381.65. I rely on these profiles/settings because I have a laptop and can't change them externally like a normal monitor could. Can AMD users chime in and let us know if this is the case for you guys as well? Thanks.

UPDATE7: Looks like the update installed or enabled Asus Splendid display which was enforcing its own ICC profile. Uninstalled. Issue solved.

If you have a fast PC you will mostly get 1-2%. This is more for lower end pcs that have bloatware.

I think it is reinstalling you Video driver. Happened to me during the Insiders builds.

Could be, although when there is a driver reinstall my native resolution usually goes back to 1920x1080 @ 60hz and I have to manually set it to 100hz with CRU (this happens every time without exception) while this time it held at 100hz and everything else was reset so I don't know exactly what happened. Maybe it resets most of the settings to avoid conflicts?
