Oh my science I figured it out for me. It seems the update installed or enabled ASUS splendid display that I must have disabled or uninstalled a LONG time ago and it runs a service "ACMON" or something like that. It keeps the active laptop monitor profile it sets active. I don't know about the nVidia setting yet as I have to test it out but I uninstalled Asus Splendid, downloaded a calibrated ICC profile for my laptop from notebookreview and everything has been peachy through restarts so far.
So, look for something that we enabled or installed that your system specific that would enforce ICC profiles.
I stumbled across the idea trolling forums for G751 ICC profiles and someone mentioned splendid messing with their custom one. Thank science for forums.
