looks like an interesting idea Rod. Yeah - IDK, I'm not leaving the glob of CLU on the resistors for long, hope to try a few benchmarks tonight... been stupid busy here the last few days. redface.gif
oh, edit: I think that mk11E score just replaced my TXP score wink.gif re; stinky

Will 10 ohms be low enough? I know that one article said to jumper the caps around U26(29?) with 10 ohm variable resistors, but said nothing about the values needed to jumper the 05M resistors in question - and even said to not bother with them. I have to think a blob of CLU is less than 10 ohms, I guess I can check that easy enough, and that one guy actually used wire that has to be lower than 10 ohms.

Just checked, resistor sized blob of CLU shows 0 resistance out to 2 places. Infact I can draw it out into a very thin line on a plastic envelope and it never shows any resistance.

Here's a pic of my shunt mod (Conductonaut).

Was pegging 120% in Superposition 4k, now it doesn't go above 100% (hovers around 83% in Heaven extreme 1440p). I'd say this is the perfect application amount.

I was getting like 35% at the beginning (wouldn't boost at all). Then all of a sudden the power limit went up. Maybe the liquid metal lost contact with one of the shunts (I'm thinking it's the one closest to the pcie power), I'll see when I take it apart again to see if everything's okay. If so, you might not even have to do two. Maybe one resistor will do.

Anybody run like this long-term?

Edit: the contact with both shunts are good. Not sure what that was then, but if you're looking to shunt mod, this is how you need to do it. I used Conductonaut.

First, I made a small ball and then stretched it with the supplied q-tip. Just make sure the lm is contacting the edges of the resistor.

I believe you are getting confused. What we are doing is trying to do is fool the voltage controller into thinking it is receiving less power. Direct contact , 0 ohms, or solder across shunt results in a low per state - FAIL. CLU and other LM is being used because it has resistance greater than 5 ohms.

milli ohms?

tell ya one thing... the components in the red circle were hard to keep under 65C without the shunt mod.. with it, it's impossible with a uniblock mount. ohno-smiley.gif

But I just checked a similar amount of CLU that would fit on the resistor and it was substantially less than 5 ohms - by several orders of magnitude. Way closer to zero than 5 ohms.

Or look at it this way -why would a piece of tiny wire work. The resistance of that is going to be extremely low, hardly above zero. A blob of CLU is hardly above zero - I can't measure it with my DMM. Both are way below 10 ohms, way below 5 ohms. I have (12) .002 ohm, .005 ohm and .0005 ohm 2512 resistors coming. Even doing all 3 resistors, that's enough for 4 cards.

I'm not following. You said you were measuring samples with your dmm and now you are saying you couldn't get a reading. You are talking about several orders of unreadable magnitude??? smile.gif
I can say there are a bunch of inconsistencies and opposition to laws of resistance taking place here.
I'm glad there are multiple people trying to solve the same problem and just hope someone, anyone can get it figured.
Also by your line of thinking wouldn't 2-3 ohms be more suitable in terms of proportion?

My DMM won't measure resistance less than .01 ohm. The blob of CLU reads 0.000 Note that this is entirely different than reading OL, or Out of Limits (open circuit). The CLU is an extremely low resistance, I didn't say I couldn't get a reading. I said my equipment wasn't sensitive enough to differentiate between the resistance of a blob of CLU and zero - it's basically a short according to my DMM.

I can read 10 ohms. An order of magnitude is 10X, I can read 1 ohm (1 order) I can read .1 ohm (2 orders) I can't measure less than .01 ohm (3 orders). The blob of CLU is less than .01 ohm, so I can't measure how many orders of magnitude the CLU is from 10 ohms, but it's more than 3.

All we are trying to do is lower the resistance across the shunt resistors, a direct short (zero ohms) has only been shown to work in one instance, so choosing a value greater than zero but less than .01ohm (just guessing, as the blob of CLU is less than .01 ohm by my measurement equipment) is what we're after. If I was guessing, I'd say the parallel resistance needed will be significantly less than .01 ohms.
