Hmm now Volta will be interesting. It's going to be impressive if Nvidia manage to beat the TXp with a mid-range xx70 series card early next year.

The block itself just plants on top of the chip...it's literally a 10-15 minute install. You unscrew and remove two parts of the OEM shroud (at least on the OEM/FE version of the 1080 Ti), unscrew and remove the vapor chamber/heatsink, disconnect the OEM fan and daisy chain it to the pump wire, plug pump wire in place of where OEM fan was. Put one of the two OEM shroud pieces back on and screw on block, leaving the top shroud piece off. Done, enjoy temps that never cross 50c without having to go custom.

OEM fan is still controllable also and nothing else is removed so the VRMs are cooled by the plate and fan still (not that this is an issue since it doesn't work any differently with the EVGA shroud on and GamersNexus tested VRMs with temp probes with and without shroud, it was all the same).

Personally, I prefer the 1080/1070 cooler since it's a) $60 cheaper than EVGA's ripoff Titan Xp/1080 Ti hybrid cooler, where you're just paying for the shroud and b) Keeping 90% OEM aesthetics/shroud looks much better.

I can confirm Monday if the 1080/1070 hybrid coolers work just as well for the Xp as it does the 1080 Ti, but here are my two 1080 Tis with them on now:

That's more Nvidia cutting costs by literally using the EXACT same shroud as the 2016 Titan X rather than modifying it a little to remove the GTX lighting...they probably have a ton of those 2016 TX shrouds around still. Think about it...it would actually cost them less to not have the lighting on a new shroud, but they do because they're just reusing shrouds. I have the 2016 Titan X Pascals in front of me and they look 100% the exact same as the 2017 shroud.

If it does maybe take a few pics of the process especially the daisy chain part. It would be greatly appreciated. I've never taken a gpu apart especially a $1200 dollar one haha.

No, it will not be impressive if a mid-range Volta card beats a TXp next year...it will be expected. The 1070 eclipsed the Titan X Maxwell even if only by like, 5% or so. This is how technology works and if nothing else, there will be some other improvements from Volta that probably won't just be measured by raw FPS gains.

No problem man, i'll take some pics for ya. thumb.gif

If you haven't bought the 1080 Ti/Titan X specific EVGA Hybrid cooler I would honestly hold off and really recommend just getting the 1080/1070 one.

Usually I don't question what people spend their money on but in this case, there is absolutely ZERO reason to get the $160 Hybrid cooler over the $100 1080/1070 version unless you REALLY want the EVGA branded-shroud instead of OEM...the installation process is still going to be the same regardless.

Lol, looks like EVGA jacked the price up on the 1080/1070 coolers and they're now sold out...they were $99 both on Amazon and EVGA just last week ($120 now) when I ordered them for my 1080 Tis. Glad I snagged them from Amazon. biggrin.gif

Yeah I saw that. It's cool I prefer to keep the shroud that says Titan X on like you mentioned. Just have to make sure I do the daisy chain clean for when I resell the card. Don't want to lose the factory fan plug that will need to go back on.

Yeah dude, keeping the OEM shroud and lighting looks so clean...and that's another thing, ease of putting the card back together is literally a 5-minute job when it comes time to resell. Pop off Hybrid block, plug OEM fan back in, screw heatsink back on and screw on top shroud. Boom...done. Backplate never even comes off this thing with the Hybrid cooler except to swap the Hybrid block with the OEM heatsink.

I'll get those pics posted on Monday for sure, there is no way i'm keeping the Xps on air after seeing what the 120mm Hybrid coolers can do...it's very close to my custom loop temps that I doubt i'll ever go back with how easy it is to switch GPUs often (and that's something I never thought i'd say).
