It might be a long shot but like I said, worth a shot if the alternative is $$ being spent.

So he can plug his pump or fan to any of the FAN headers? here is all his fan headers:

I wouldn't do *any* of the fan headers but the CPU_OPT is the one I'm looking at.

I had similar issue with 4690K, thermal paste under IHS died and I was getting max temp after applying basically any load. I sent it to warranty and got a new one, this one lasted better although I don't have it anymore.

Thermal paste under IHS? how does thermal paste just die? why would you send thermal paste to warranty? I am a bit confused.

Well he took it to a computer shop and looked like his mount was cracked and wasn't making full contact with the CPU it self. The guy charged him $118 for installing an Intel stock cooler. Lesson learned, hopefully next time he won't be too scared of doing it himself.

There is a cheap and terrible thermal paste between the core and IHS instead of solder. I sent the CPU to warranty, not thermal paste biggrin.gif I didn't feel too comfortable with delidding. This may be the issue with any not soldered CPU doing strange things, I was literally getting the performance like without a cooler at all.

What country is that? Maybe I will move there, if installing stock cooler is worth $118 then I will become a millionaire with no effort at all biggrin.gif

Or go there and build watercooled PC's and sell them for a 10x markup

Apparently they are all rich over there smile.gif

Man I would've told him to take his garbage stock cooler back and not pay him.
Like gee thanks sherlock for telling me my cpu cooler is broken, and charging me $60 to do so.
