2x Ryzen 1700 won't run stable at 3.8ghz?

Thread Starter
Hi, my new system is giving me some trouble for several weeks now...

Gigabyte Gaming 3
4x8GB Gskill 3200 @ 2400/2133 CL15, Command Rate 2T
2 different 1700

I have tried several v- and soc core values However it's rather hard to tell which vcore is actually used, as every tool report different readings, I used different Offsets in the bios, ranging from + 0,12 to + 0,2
The temperatures are fine. (Worst was 85°C on the vrm mos)

Originally I thought I had the first cpu stable at 3.9 with +0,17 vcore, but during some workload it tended to crash, so I went down to 1,8@ +0.15 vcore which runned fine for several days but then also just crashed during some heavier workload. Thinking I might just had bad luck on the cpu I ordered a new one.

Before replacing the cpu I Updated the Bios (F4>F5) and ran Aida's Stresstest, interestingly it would run on 3,9ghz @ +0.16vcore for a minute before aida would stop with an hardware failure error. 3,85 was running for about 4 minutes before stopping with a failure error, and at 3,8ghz it ran for 8 minutes before I manually stopped it.

So I put the new cpu in, 3,9ghz crash under 1 minute in aida, increaseing the soc and vcore same result. 3.85 ghz, crash in under a minute. 3.8ghz crash in under 3 minutes.

So the new 1700 actually happens to be even worse than the old. At least the old didn't crash during Aida. Well I could be super unlucky with both of the CPU's, but after just spending 6 Hours in Bootloops and whatnot I really don't feel like testing a 3rd cpu.

You guys have any recommendations? I tried to run the system with only 2 Modules of Ram, but no change. I probably could try absurd amounts of vcore, but since I never really know what vcore is actually applied I'm a bit concerned about that, also I want to run the OC 24/7 on a Workstation.

use manual voltage instead. maximum safe is 1.4v afaik

I have an R7 1700 as well. I was disappointed in its overclocking ability, as I wanted 4.0GHz.

Mine takes 1.356v to run 3.8GHz and 1.381v to run 3.85GHz. That's with RAM running at 3200 14-14-14-14-34-1T.
Currently testing 3.877GHz (37x104.8) at 1.381v to run my RAM at 3353 14-14-14-14-34-1T.

Voltages are measured in the newest HWinfo64 using CPU Core Voltage (SVI2 TFN). All of these are using LLC level 3 for CPU and SoC.

Hardware list is in my sig rig.

Before you start overclocking you need to make sure your memory is stable at those settings.

The Gigabyte Gaming 3 needs LOTS of voltage. I guess the reported values are higher than the CPU actually gets. Actual voltage may be lower than reported.

With BIOS F6d
3.8Ghz might need +0.222 volts for IBT AVX stability.
3.9Ghz might need +0.246volts
39.5 needs +0.300 volts

These are results I've have come to with my own Gaming 3 and Ryzen 1700.
SOC is good at auto with 0.900V for 2666Mhz memory.

Though I recommend good cooling.

VRM NEEDS! extra airflow with a fan or such. I have a 70mm old amd cpu fan on them and get 92C now with +0.222 @ 3.8Ghz running IBT AVX 'Maximum'.
3.95Ghz @ +0.300V reached 113C on VRM IBT 'Maximum'.

I've now using F6i BIOS. so unsure if same voltages applies still , need more testing.

TEST AT YOUR OWN RISK! I HAVE NO RESPONSIBILITY IF YOU BRAKE YOUR MOTHERBOARD OR OTHER COMPONENTS!

Try with 2 of those ram sticks removed, they don't like 4 sticks at the moment and ram seems to be the sticking point. Mine is sat stable 4.0ghz @ 1.38v at the moment, but my ball kicker is my RGB ram flying along at 2133mhz ....

Set manual voltage to 1.425v, 40X multi and save and reboot. Ran my 1700 from day 1 with those settings

problem is this board only does Offset. and max is +0.300volts

40.00 x isn't even close to stable with +0.300V on this board. 39.50 was max I could get AVX stable.

Sounds like the board sucks
