Computer randomly restarts while gaming with 1080 TI

Thread Starter
Anyone else have this issue?
Playing BF1 for about an hour, then my computer just shuts down completely and restarts.
Nothing in the events viewer, most recent drivers (4/6/17), CPU did not overheat, corsair 1200i

No other hardware was changed, what the heck.

Normaly but not everytime,

Gpu make driver crash.
Cpu system crash/freeze then can shutdown.
Psu instant computer shutdown/restart

Mine was doing that because of the PSU. In hard cpu/cpu scene the computer would just shutdown and restart. My mobo was calling for powersurge at reboot (but not all mobo tell you)

But it was a 750W, Although its suppose to be enough for one 1080TI it did not work well but maybe it was too old.
In my system, changing from 2 GTX970 to a 1080TI was taking more more power because it was not happening before changing card too.

At 1200W you should be more than ok because I now have a 1000W with 2 x 1080ti and its fine, but if its an old/defective PSU it could be dying (ripple on 12V line) or overheating. Do you have a digital multimeter. you could monitor your 12V.

In DC measuring From 11.40V to 12.60V
In AC you could see if there is riple, although not as best as an osciloscope you not supose to see a lot of voltage in ac mode (would indicate ripple)

Check PSU for Fan or heat.

There is a temp protection in PSU that make them shutdown.

Edit: Just re test my new PSU, In AC I get 20 to 25 mV max at full load (firestrike first scene) and 7 to 10 at idle.

Before with the old PSU I was having 150mV when it shutdown

I had that issue with my 980ti. It was a bad power supply.

If you're confident that your CPU isn't overheating, then your PSU is the next most likely culprit. If you don't have a known-good one on hand to swap out, I'd suggest running out to Best Buy and picking one up off the shelf there. It's times like this when their 15-day "no questions asked" return policy is really convenient. biggrin.gif

Post your crash log. Usually WhoCrashed allows you to view the dump very fast. thumb.gif

I had a similar issue with a 5960X when encoding with x265, it wasn't until the aux power cable to the motherboard started smoking that I realized it was a power issue on a 12V rail. It was a 1000W platinum PSU but getting a new PSU with another aux motherboard power cable did solve it.

Sudden reboots, and only reboots (it never freezes or blue screens), are usually power related.

check if all the psu cable are correctly connected (CPU MB GPU).
If yes, then you can try another PSU because that's most likely the problem.
