[PetaPixel] $5,660 Mac Pro Crushed in Photoshop Test by $1,530 PC with AMD Ryzen - Page 8

Apparently Apple is upgrading the MacPro this year(about freakin' time too). Craig Federighi and Phil Schiller said they completely rethought the design. In 2013 I remember the MacPro was a pretty good value. Sadly they haven't updated it in over 3 years which is the equivalent of 30 years in the computer space.

I agree with the rest of your post but the MacPro released in late 2013 had current hardware at the time. It didn't have 2012 hardware as you're claiming and was significantly faster than PC's of an equivalent price. Problem is it's 3 and a half years old now and hasn't had a price drop nor parts upgrade.

Yep - per the reports they are going back to user upgradable GPU's (About freaking time) and a case that isn't thermally limited like the current gen.

Maybe OSX fanboys will finally think twice before spouting nonsense about OSX being 10 times more efficient at memory usage, etc.

For the last 10 years every time I've ever talked to a student or professional in any sort of computer graphics/art field I've been hearing the same nonsense about how they can only use macs and everyone else should too because a Windows based system with 32GB of DDR4, a SSD, and the latest processor can't even get close to the speed, reliability, and smoothness of running photoshop on a 2011 Macbook pro.

It is seriously the most infuriating thing.

I know what you mean. Only advantage I see with OSX over Windows is that programs are less likely to crash. Base on my experience using both.

Apple users do not check specs. So this will not affect Apple at all.

You've clearly never met a good chunk of the professional audio and/or video community then... Most judge their purchase based upon the specs of the machine.
