Ryzen 5 is more than competitive with Intel's offers no doubt!

There's still Passmark single threaded to go by. Ryzen scores lower than my current rig. wink.gif

Wonder if I should drop my x99 6 core for Ryzen 6 core. it is so tempting with prices so cheap for boards.
That doesnt make fiscal sense to be honest, your already on a strong platform.

If your just looking to burn money then by all means go ahead

That doesn't make sense, it'd be mostly a side-grade (rather than an upgrade/downgrade) and x99 has strengths in certain applications that Ryzen doesn't have. (Sane IOMMU/ACS, PCIe passthrough, some motherboards offering Thunderbolt, having processors that offer a lot of PCIE lanes, also quad-channel memory, though that obviously isn't a must for most people. Also better performance in buffering for DAW applications.)

Ryzen is great if you don't already have x99, because of price-performance, but, although it's not worth the extra money for most people, x99 is sometimes a better platform and there isn't enough difference between the two to justify switching otherwise. Wait for Ryzen x399, that's supposed to be their answer to x99, and for Intel's Skylake-X, if you must get new hardware. smile.gif

Where can we see some DAW tests? Been curious how these do with DAWs. Been hammering my 4790K in Reaper lately.

Better multicore performance, but it has significant problems with buffering performance. (Maybe that's the memory subsystem or something.)

Think of what other things you could do with that money besides a side-grade, or save it. (I know, strange concept, saving money. wink.gif )
