I5 2500k overclocking help for a newbee - Page 2

As far as I know the 500W is a value that Nvidia advised as minimum. But that value is recommended by them in a way that it's more than enough for a gtx 970 to run, usually between 400-460 is enough for the gtx 970 to run. These recommendations doesn't represent their real minimal requirements but rather a value that's more than safe for them to run. I read a few reviews about the elite power 600 and they said that it can put out 500 but not 600.

I just realised that you were talking about the wrong PSU . Mine is : Cooler Master Elite power 600W RS600 -ACAB-M4, the one you were talking about was this one :
eXtreme Power Plus 600 W (RS-600-PCAR-E3)
They are 2 entirely different models.

I can't find any type of review on a RS600 ACAB-M4... If it is indeed a quality 600w PSU, you should be fine to overclock with that setup. Good luck.

Edit - just noticed you said you read that it can put out 500 but not 600? That alone should be kind of a red flag.

My 2c... you should always go out of your way to make sure you have a quality PSU. That is the single most important component in your rig. It's one of the only pieces of hardware that can take your system down and every piece of hardware with it. I'm not saying this PSU is garbage (obviously I can't since there are no reviews) but I would not chance it...

Thank you for your concern. I will see how it goes , if it dies on me then I will change it, it's my problem, I will see whether I will encounter any change in function (noise increase, malfunction ,and so on..) .

Good luck. For stability purposes, I recommend using Prime95 for CPU stress testing. Most people will say it should run for 24 hours... I usually let it go for 4... Keep an eye on CPU temps... I don't like mine going over 80C. With your cooler, that shouldn't be a problem at all (the D14 rocks)

After that, use your gaming benchmark of choice to test gaming stability. I like Unigen Heaven... it's free.
