[Tech Report] Rumor: Intel pulls X299 and Skylake-X release to late June - Page 4

The Skylake-X LCC die is still only a 10 core die from what I've read so far, and we saw a die shot of the HCC die showing 28 cores. Maybe we will get some HEDT SKUs from the MCC die this time around?

I highly doubt it and if we do see a Skylake-X with >10 cores, it'll be a direct result of a high core count Ryzen CPU. If AMD does come through with an HEDT Ryzen with the rumored 16-cores, there will be little or no reason to even consider the puny and ultra-neutered Intel HEDT chips.

I truly hope AMD hands Intel its ass in the HEDT market. To witness such a comeuppance being delivered to those foolish marketing individuals at Intel who strive to neuter their HEDT CPUs to the maximum extent possible would be quite gratifying...wink.gif

I hope the next gen Ryzen will come in improvement in IPC, clock speed and core count for the same price.

That will be the final nail to Intel's coffin.

If Intel fail to outperform AMD with Skylake-EX they will lost a lot of customers.
Or even if he not fail, no one will pay 8 cores more than 500$.

X99 was a lot smoother than X79.

Anyone in doubt can ask our good friends at EVGA about how it went.

Just take one look at the EVGA SR-X and that gives you a good picture of what that launch was like...

Heh, to be honest never was in Team Red for CPU's, but a dual 16 Core Ryzen in a Overclockable HEDT form factor (Much like the original SR-2) would be very tempting to snap up - even if it was a little pointless it would still very cool.

But your 4930k gets smashed in multi threading by Ryzen around the 4Ghz mark. Atealst thats what im seeing in benches

I doubt any repeat of the sr-2/sr-x will happen.
Even if you will use server grade motherboards, you won't get the same benefits you got with the sr series.

It might be nice to break records on synthetic benchmarks, but beside that, tbh, useless.

Yeah, the SR-2 was one of those once in a very long time sorta thing. Pretty much like I said, useless, but cool.

I could see them getting with someone for a Halo sort of product, something they can wave around and brag about, but not something even those of us in the HEDT end of the pool are going to flock to on the whole.

The performance, the AM4 platform, the price of both is really outstanding.

If that same pattern follows into HEDT than maybe those rumors of the 12 core and dual socket boards hold true.

I can absolutely see a dual socket HEDT platform. It provides something Intel doesn't have, revives their old QuadFX style platform and gives them that halo product that says AMD has the fastest platform. If nothing else, I could see them doing it simply because Ryzen is actually a return to competition to AMD.
