I guess that all depends on if your craving for buying new hardware is strong.

Is single thread performance on these R5s any better than that on the R7's? Basically, if I can afford it, am I better off going with 1700/1700x or 1600? biggrin.gif
post #14 of 123
thats actually quite nice. the 1600x oc'd pretty much matches my 6600k oc'd in games but has 12 threads vs my 4. i actually think thats enough to get me on the 1600x bandwagon.

If you can afford it and are willing to OC then 1700 seems to be the sweet spot closely followed by 1600. If you would rather not OC then it seems the 1600X will be the king of the hill for general computing/gaming mix in that budget point.

What I find also interesting is that 1500X (4C/8T part) has 200 MHz XFR range making it able to boost up to 3900MHz in theory on a single core so it will be pretty interesting option in sub 200$ budget point. But I am not sure if the price difference with 1600 is really large enough to go for that over 1600 with its extra 2 cores/4 threads. Perhaps if one is strictly and fervently unwilling to OC or that ~20$ budget makes all the difference in the world.

Why does some review put a Ryzen 5 against a $500-$1200 premium GPU? Majority of them put on a GTX 1080, some goes as far as a TITAN. facepalm and then they bench it on 1080p.... double facepalm

if one to buy stuff as cheap as 1500X or 1600X he is less likely to get anything above 1070. GTX1060/1070 or RX480 is a more realistic pair.

Are review sites these days so stupid?

that's the problem
most "Reviewers" put the 1600x-1500x on the bench with a 1080ti or a Titan X to "eliminate" GPU bottleneck despite the fact that almost no one would pair a 700-1200$ GPU with a 250$ CPU and the Nvidia driver issue with Ryzen
that's why I choose to not believe anyone's tests with only Nvidia cards

Why not pair 1500x with 1080 or 1080Ti? All Ryzen CPUs released so far will be able to accommodate such GPU performance without much trouble. I'm planning on getting Vega and 1500x should be more than enough to push it at 1440p and above. 1060/480x is better suited for lower end CPUs like i3s, locked i5s and Ryzen 3. If one wants to get Ryzen for a production/workstation based build than Titan X makes perfect sense.

I agree 100%. These cpus are meant to be used for the next few years, and recieve several GPU upgrades down the road.
As an example, the i5 3570k paired with a mid range GPU by 2012, or with a 4 times faster GPU in 2016. And no problem.
