OLED 4K 30" 60 Hz - Dell UP3017Q - Page 23

Well I ended up getting the monitor for $2996 shipped overnight via my dell business account after much negotiations.

Sooo... I guess I'll give it a shot.

My first impressions - the colors are really nice, no questions. However, the resolution is absolutely horrid. Going from a 27" 5K display to a 30" 4K display is a huge downgrade visually.

Lol now THERE is the BAASHA we all know and love...keep throwing money until it builds a wall of displays capable of melting gpus lachen.gif

Now....I had a 27" 5k and it was cool, but totally useless as it required text scaled at least 150%. Furthermore, for an IPS panel the blacks were passable (better than my IPS 1440 predator gaming displays), but its contrast still blows compared to OLED and it also had super annoying IPS glow and some BLB.

The cherry on the top......5K for gaming is placebo....you see NOBODY makes 5K textures for games. 4k is the highest any developer is going with textures, that is one of the reasons why 4k looks so much better than 1440p.....but I found almost zero difference between gaming on the 5k versus 4k because textures were limited to 4k.

With that said, I would really love to see a 5k 36" OLED 100+ hz...now that would be sick!

5k is still a hell of a lot more pixels. More pixels = more clarity and detail, less aliasing. I'm hoping 5k is the highest resolution I'll ever need for a monitor, so that I can focus on refresh rate upgrades only. I figure either at 5k or 8k, the industry will begin to offer super high refresh rate monitors like 1080p's 240 Hz but hopefully even more, since resolution upgrades are going to stop being important sooner or later (at least for gaming).

Showing friday for me too, even with overnight today.

It sounds like Zurv fixed most his color problems by running the xrite calibration software provided by dell. That's what i'll be doing.

Sorry, I meant that it simply exists on this monitor, but I don't know at what level is the cut-off point. At those brightness levels ABL could very well be non-existent.

Yes and no. Even single pixel on LG OLED TVs do in fact have their own red, green, and blue sub-pixels - there's no Samsung pentile shenanigans going on there.

However, every single pixel has a white sub-pixel as well - this means that each pixel is made up of four sub-pixels (red, green, blue, white).

Indeed; this is why something like Dolphin can make games look higher quality by rendering at the likes of 4k even though the art assets were designed for a 480p game console.

I look forward to trying one of your profiles. smile.gif did you get your i1d retail or OEM? Mine is OEM form calman and maybe a little different? (doubtful.. but you never know.)

But the lesson now for people with meters. Maybe stay away from using calman with this dell. (till it is patch)
(just to test to make sure my meter worked, i did a test on my razerblade laptop with calman. Everything worked as expected and cleaned up the colors on the display really well.)
Mine is retail. I'll share the profile when I make one. Order was updated to estimate delivery Thursday. thumb.gif I've never calibrated via ICC, I've heard you need to check something to force games to use your ICC profile. I know games like Witcher 3 load their own?

I've also never used Calman. I've debated dropping money into it, but HCFR seems to work for me when calibrating TVs.

I'm looking forward to playing Dawn of War III in a week on this monitor. smile.gif (honestly, if a game works with a controller, i'm going to play it on the 65" OLED G6 on the sofa with the dog and 7.1 sound. smile.gif )

ARGH! so sad mass effect was pooo. the HDR looked real good on it! HDR is pretty darn amazing and it is a shame this monitor doesn't support it. No, this isn't "close" smile.gif HDR is more than just being bright (well.. kinda it is... but it bright in the right places. smile.gif )

also, here are some crappy pix of 5%. It is still to light out. the camera on this phone isn't super and reflective screen (and all the white stuff around me) isn't helping. Vega has a better camera.

In all honesty, I want BOTH OLED and high resolution --> 8K OLED would be... purrrrrfect.

Going to try sRGB tonight and see how this thing performs. The other lame thing I had to do was get an adapter that's miniDP to female-DP to connect my long DP 1.2 cable since my rig is in another room (biggrin.gif).

Going to try sRGB tonight and see how this thing performs. The other lame thing I had to do was get an adapter that's miniDP to female-DP to connect my long DP 1.2 cable since my rig is in another room (biggrin.gif).

Now, where is my 8K monitor Dell? mad.gif LOL...

Yea that portrait surround 5k setup was pretty crazy.... should be interesting to see your take when you get the 8K. I think you will either go portrait surround OLED 4ks or just rock the 8k.

I think I will be good with this Dell OLED until we get some 4k 120"hz displays out, but that 8k is tempting thumb.gif
